It's dawned on me, we are getting relegated 22:10 - Dec 3 with 3889 views | GeoffSentence | Palace were comfortably the worst bunch of copper nanotubes to plonk their trotters on FPR's hallowed emerald carpet and we did not lay a glove on them. I mean they were dreadful, but we were worse, thaty was like watching a league one game in parts, easily the worst performance of thre season. We just don't have the strength in depth for the premier league either. A couple of injuries and we are scuppered, and our subs don't give us an edge either. Ah well, so be it.

It's dawned on me, we are getting relegated on 22:15 - Dec 3 with 3789 views | Blue_Heath | To be honest I didn't think we had a chance from the off, too much too soon. That said we can perform against the Man U's, Villa's and Tottenham's but can't get up for the games that we have to win (Everton & Palace), finishing above at least one would almost certainly guarnatee survival. We've given both a 6 point edge and have to now play both away. THis is going to be a long horrible season now the novelty factor of being in the prem has worn off and we are going down in a very poor fashion I am afraid akin to the year we went down from the Championship. We can only hope Southampton continue to be worse than us. Where will a win at home come from?

Just like the win away from home, when you least expect it, and it should have been against Manchester United. That was a missed opportunity. [Post edited 4 Dec 2024 0:18]

Very poor fashion? Is there a good way to go down? Whether there is or not I don't think you can say we're doing it in a very poor fashion. We've had entertaining games for the most part, and in reality it shouldn't be a surprise we've done it against the bigger clubs. It's the games like tonight against the lesser sides that are going to kill us, because they'll defend all day and nick one.

Well yes garv If we continue the current run we end the season with 3 wins maybe 4. That would be going down in a poor fashion.

You’d hope so, but there are no guarantees. Although both Sheffield United and Burnley are looking strong, just look at Luton this season. The Hatters struggling with players now believing they are above the Championship and forgotten what got them to the EPL in the first place. [Post edited 4 Dec 2024 3:46]

One narrow defeat away from home and one mediocre performance along with a Ruud van Nistilroy appt later elsewhere we are doomed, rubbish and it will be like the championship relegation season. Quite astonishing. Yes last night was poor. But surely we can hang in there til at least March before we start giving ip on the team and our manager.
It's dawned on me, we are getting relegated on 08:00 - Dec 4 with 2569 views | monkeymagic | I suspect we will go down with circa 25 points, no shame in that. We are giving it a go and competing in a frighteningly good league, where nearly every side has at least 3 £40m players, probably us included. I think we are short in depth, and lack physicality but it’s asking a lot to build a premier league squad in one window. It wasn’t that long ago that we were effectively a mid table league one club, with mounting debt and an uncertain future. We look likely to be a potential yo-yo club over the coming years, which I would certainly have taken back in 2017 ish.

Defensively they are the best side we have seen this season at Portman They completely nullified us with their tactics, you have to give that to Glasner They weren't great going forward but offered enough for us to make a mistake and punish us. They did a similar job on Spurs who have far better resources than us.

Not the case though is it? Nobody is giving it to the team it’s just I’m afraid to say reality. Can anyone see us being strong enough to actually go on a winning run? We are were we are and that has no reflection on club or players maybe it’s come a season to soon due to the incredible success of two seasons running. COYBs

It's dawned on me, we are getting relegated on 08:21 - Dec 4 with 2424 views | Reus30 | It's all a bit OTT. We have played two incredibly strong defensively teams built on pace and power in our last two games. We lost the game to a goal scored by an absolute monster with a superb finish. This weekend is far more important. Whilst Bournemouth have greater attacking threats, I think we match up well. But we need bigger performances for the crowd and from the front 4 in particular if we are to have a chance.

No, they weren't awful at all. Ugly, pragmatic, effective. Horrible football to watch, but it'll get enough results for them to stay up.

You are completely right - If we beat Bournemouth (tough but possible) then the threads on here will be saying how we are going to stay up. Football is rife with fickle supporters and most of us are guilty of it.
It's dawned on me, we are getting relegated on 09:11 - Dec 4 with 2214 views | SuperBlue1998 | I don't think we can be written off just as yet. There's little to suggest its going to need a particularly high points total to stay up (its below a point a game currently, and from what we've seen of Palace/Everton/Leicester they haven't got a lot of fire power). I want to see us get to 14/15 points by the turn of the year, that's 5/6 more points. We would then need a second half of the season in which we acquire 20ish, which may be doable if we have a bit more luck with injuries especially. Not over yet!
It's dawned on me, we are getting relegated on 09:35 - Dec 4 with 2094 views | BloomBlue | It was never going to be easy. I've always felt those fans thinking we were going to be climbing up the league after the Spurs win were plssed when they typed that. However I've not changed my mind I still think we'll finish 4th from bottom. The pressure is getting to the players, well the lack of a home win is, you could see that last night. Too many safe passes, nobody prepared to try something different ie a long pass, for fear of a mistake. That was exacerbated with their goal, we're attacking lose the ball and suddenly an attacker is allowed to run at our defence brushes off a CH and 1-0. I want to see more from the midfield, yes they collected the ball did some nice runs, but I don't recall one moment where a midfielder tried to run beyond the attack, aka John Wark. When a defence is tight, you need a player coming from deep, give the defence something different to think about. I still think there are enough games left to get the points required. With the one concern being we need a home win ASAP. It's the home form which decides our survival chances.

Without being boring, or at least trying to, anyone who looked at the stats wouldn't have had us as best bets to stay up, although until last night we were improving. If yesterday is just a blip and the general improvements in shape and chance conceding vs creation continues in the right direction then of course, nothing's decided yet and we still have a chance. But from my point of view having mocked several teams for their pitiful attempts at this level (including those lot) it's crazy when you're actually in the league to see the difference and how hard it is to overcome, even with our pretty decent spend. And we have a much better manager than most of those other teams have done

Home form plus picking up points from fellow strugglers. Currently we are failing on both counts. Our performances are good against the better teams, teams who almost always set out to play the game their way. We have picked up points against Fulham, Villa, Spurs & Man Utd. We have struggled against teams that set themselves up to stifle the opposition, most of these teams can be found in, or just above, the relegation zone. KMc has to find a way to compete against these teams. The style of play that got us back to back promotions won’t work. People talk about our failure to sign another front runner being the problem, it really isn’t. Our problem is in the transition, getting the ball into areas where chances can be created, We need help in the middle third. Someone who will take the ball forward from midfield, rather than front players going back to bring the ball forward. Someone also defence minded, Taylor or Phillips spring to mind. We lost against Forest because an attacker made a clumsy tackle giving away a Penalty. Unless KMc can solve this he isn’t going anywhere.

We have always struggled against the more physical sides and those that come to play a low block under McK, from League One days v Wycombe, Lincoln, Rotherham to Palace and Everton in the Prem. I understand that players are used to being set up and play in a certain way, but the lack of experimentation by McK is costing us points alongside injuries. Remember how he put 2 strikers Moore and Hirst top when we were chasing the game at PNE last season? Why wasn't it done yesterday, playing a fellow struggler at home? Fear of being ripped a new one like what happened at Elland Road last season? Even in the Champ we mostly struggled against the top 6 sides besides Southampton - how many points did we get from Leicester, Leeds, West Brom, Norwich? 4 out of 24! The main problem as we all can see 14 games in is our squad is simply not good enough to compete man for man in a Prem where fine margins count. One mistake, one shot can mean the difference between 3 points and 0. Look at Forest when they went up in the 22/23 season. People were laughing at them for buying a whole new squad and spending £200 million + but in hindsight it seems that Forest, being the only non-parachute payment side that won promotion to the Prem at that time - knew that that was the only way they could survive. We basically need a whole new team and the Championship regulars relegated to being effective subs. Very, very few players are the next Vardy or Dunk where they can step up from the lower leagues and become a Prem regular. Even Davis, our record breaking assist machine over the past 2 seasons looks very ordinary in the Prem. How many assists has he got this season? A lot of our regulars, Burns, Luongo, Woolfy even Chaplin are far from Prem quality and it shows. Everyone knows English players cost a premium yet we aren't scouting heavily overseas. Look at all the established Prem sides, how many English players are there in their starting XI? The lack of a well-developed scouting network is beginning to cost us. Even Champ clubs like Blackburn and Bristol City can look abroad (J-League, for example) to great effect. If the Board is serious about staying up, we need at least 5 quality players in January and some of the regulars shipped out either on loan or sold. We didn't come all the way here just to make up the numbers - might as well stay in the Championship where the entertainment is x10 and we look much more competitive.

Woolfenden's barely been given a chance in the Premier League and looked fine against Liverpool, Fulham and, to an extent, Manchester City. Everton was an issue for everyone, not just him.

They didn't and fair w ough that was their game plan. But they weren't exactly creating their own chances either, shots on target 3 vs our 2. Sums up the game perfectly imo. And there was that moment 2nd half when we got caught out pushing for an equaliser, light art the back and they got the ball out of their half and were free in our half, every other team we've played this season that's 2-0, game over. Somehow and I can't be bothered to watch any highlights to work out how, they messed it up, there wasnt some great last minute tackle from us, they just sort of tripped over themselves, didn't even get a shot of let alone at goal, and I think went for a throw in Or near the end they've got the ball in the penalty area, and the guy just falls in a heap, looking for a pen, but there was no town player with 2yards of him. He stays on his feet he's free to score. That's how bad they were.and equally us to barely match them.
