Has our fan group got our approach to this season somewhat wrong?! 23:44 - Dec 8 with 3750 viewsunstableblue

Quite surprised by the reactions on the board tonight and the general feeling towards today’s game, and indeed the wider season.

I can’t help but feel a lot of fans are misjudging how to feel or approach this season.

We are massive underdogs. Our squad is seasons of investment behind every other team.

Also, crucially we have a manager who has delivered such amazing progression, football and memories for us. He surely demands huge amounts of respect and patience.

Shouldn’t we be providing unconditional support and backing? Indeed rabid backing.

McKenna looked a forlorn and solo character at the end tonight, with empty stands greeting him.

Before we all know it, he’ll move on, and perhaps we’ll feel we didn’t treat this challenging season in the right way.

Let’s treat every game as a cup final, a free hit, and try and enjoy the journey. It was a cracking game today with unbelievable performances from the likes of Burgess and ex-Peterborough Taylor.

Let’s do better.

In my post after the game I gave a gentle dig at the fairweather fans who left immediately after the second goal, but I wanted to say how much of a disgrace they were.

Watch the last two years play out like they have and then leave the ground in a sulk because we conceded a last minute winner to an established PL team. Nice.

The manager and players deserved more respect. Staying until the end and applauding your team off after a good performance is one of those tiny things that might make a difference come the end of the season.

If Town fans don’t think those empty stands at the final whistle aren’t going to influence McKenna the next time a club with a more advanced squad come in for him - then they are feckin deluded

How can every game be both a cup final and a free hit. Either it’s important that we stay up or it isn’t

If you’re the massive underdog in a cup final then it’s a free hit surely?!

And if you’re losing to teams with far far superior squads and yet you’re losing or DRAWING by fine margins - then it’s something to be celebrated

Shall we not enjoy the ride and BACK the boys with unconditional support

We could play Real Madrid and I wouldn’t think losing was something to celebrate. This is a mental post

alot of our fan group havent been in this position before.

alot of our fan group have only been used to winning lots of games all the time.

Im not surprised by the reaction, its one Ive been expecting to hit for a while, thats not to say Im disappointed by it.

or even that it annoys me a bit, because literally printed on the inside of every one of those 65,000 odd shirts weve sold recently it says "Running Towards Adversity."

but what is that quote, I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best.

maybe some of our fan group should take note of that, and what it says on our shirts

Lots of people feel that way. Some dont.

Thats OK.

Personally, I'm expected us to go down, and am not too bothered if we do. But hope we put up a fight.

Try not to post such patronising messages to those who may feel differently.

He'll have empty stands at any ground that's not winning games. If he goes to spurs. They have thousands walk out at HT if they're losing.

He's knows the score. People support the club but they want it to win games of football. If no one cared about the winning then the attendances would still be the same now as they were in the mick era and playing infront of 15k supporters.

This isn't non league football. We're not plucky little luton who got up into the prem. We are ipswich. We've won Europe. The fa cup. League titles. That's the ipswich people want to see and the ipswich people have seen the last couple of seasons. Doesn't matter what league we were in we won games of football.

You win game. You'll keep the support. You don't and you won't.

The problem is the prem sucks you in.

Look at the amount of times we've ribbed the pathetic attempts of other clubs attempts at staying up.

Including the budgies! They had more points at this point than we do now last time and they were an embarrassment.

It's just the reality of the league. The gap is a chasm. We could have spent 300m and it still might not have been enough.

We were happy with the idea of a free hit. Then you're in it and feel so close. But in reality you're not. Teams at this level keep you at arms length. And they always just do enough to win. But because you feel you're in it, the frustration increases. It's why we're seeing nonsense like McKenna out now.

I’m so pleased you’ve posted that Lambo TIFO

Where the feck is the McKenna equivalent?!

Seriously think what our manger has delivered?

Think how he turned down Brighton?!

And yet as he clapped us out tonight… he was met with empty stands!!

Well look back as a fan base… when he’s gone… and go “what were we doing?!”

A big McKenna themed Tifo at the next home game would be wonderful.

Running towards adversity is one thing, being sucked into an adverse situation with no clue how to get out of it is another. If we don’t improve both performance and personnel we will go down. Simple as.

McK may have garnered a lot of goodwill for the back to back promotions but do you think anyone will still care about back to back promotions if we go down and do a Cardiff, Stoke, Hull etc and get stuck in Championship mediocrity again? Look at the scum fans. Anyone still mentioning their back to back promotions now?

From the interview you can see than McK knows our squad is not good enough. Of course he wouldn’t say the majority of our players are not Prem quality and are not fit for purpose in this league. January is now massive. Ashton may have to flirt with breaching FFP like what Forest did. Their gamble paid off. If we can strengthen and do a turnaround like Forest, Everton etc in the 2nd half of the season we may just stay up.

I stayed and applauded. But consider this: it's Sunday. The day is messed up enough with a 2 pm kickoff. Everyone is very disappointed. Rather than stay and boo or applaud many went home to rescue what was left of their weekend.

Good luck either way that. We’ve had people having meltdowns in the last two seasons when we had a blip. Some people don’t have the emotional maturity for football (or life probably).
