I know that we just got stuffed 6-0, but get some perspective!
Some things will go in a negative direction, a lot of things will go in a positive direction, and then America will have a chance to reevaluate in 4 years and see if they want to go in a different direction. First of all. The whole concept of the executive order needs to be revised. All Presidents in living memory have abused executive orders. From what I can see it is a vast overstepping of power. Most of them are just resending prior executive orders.
It is absolutely ridiculous that a President can pardon basically whoever he wants and Biden even pre-emptively pardoned himself and his family. The flip side of the pardoning is that a lot of prosecutions are political and if you look at the details of what people actually did, many of the prosecutions and sentences were disproportionate.
Some of the executive orders are reasonable, some I disagree with, and others like renaming the Gulf of Mexico just come off as a ridiculous waste of time. |

The one thing that gives me a bit of hope for the future is that I don't think the Democrats' problems were structural - the factors that sealed their defeat are unique to the electoral cycle just gone.
They fell victim to the trend of incumbent parties being punished in virtually every country since the start of the Ukraine war and massively shot themselves in the foot with the inability to find a successor for Biden until it was too late.
The flipside to this is that on paper it shouldn't be too tricky for Trump to grow the economy, but given his mad tariff plans, that is extremely unlikely. |  |

That’s an impressive attempt to twist things.
Some things are absolutes. Like it is not ok to treat people badly because they are different (as reminded by Mariann Budde), climate change is real, vaccines work, it’s a decent thing to do to improve access to affordable healthcare, especially for people you have power over, Nazi salutes aren’t acceptable, people who storm a seat of Parliament and are involved in the killing of innocents should face justice.
