they clearly don't teach comprehension at the eton wannabe school you went to then!

try reading it again, and don't be afraid of the normal people; they're just humans, i'm sure your kids'll thrive and enjoy it if you give them the chance...

Mate, don't get sucked in by this racist prick who should have been booted months ago.

Even after his manic 5am next day editing to remove the worst of his filth (check out basically every one if his posts from p2 onwards) , this thread still gives a pretty clear indication of the pond life you're engaging with.

Was this particularly widespread/loud? This clip seems to pick up one fella or so. Obviously, anyone doing it is an ignorant prick but I’d hope it’s totally isolated.

'Our childrens future' - living with their parents until they are 40 because this country won't build them houses
[Post edited 30 Jan 12:17]

Have you seen the countryside around North Essex and Tendring? I guess the same is happening just over the border, there are thousands of new houses being built.Heading in to Colchester the other day, between Elmstead Market and Colchester they are building a 7500-9000 house ‘Garden City’,to help with it all they are also building a ‘Rapid Transport System’ which is a bus lane, they also planned to build a link road to the A120 but that won’t be ready until 2040 😂😂 if it’s ever finished that is.

We in Benters have always been a magnet for those that work in London,as Liverpool St.is about an hour away on the train. So that whacks the house prices up for having a railway station. But we still have a massive influx of people from the smoke pouring in.

My mate who is a plumber by trade, works 7 days week 8-6 most days has just bought his first house he’s only 25 years of age,so yes it is a struggle but anything is possible if you are prepared to work hard.

Perhaps the sverage poster on here is not the Everyman on the street? You’ve told me what you do. I have little interest in what you “earn” in private healthcare, catering to those that can afford it, but I do know that I have had 20-30 guys working on 2-3 building sites every day for the past 10 years. These are the people I speak to in a daily basis, as well as obviously lenders, surveyors, estate agents and those who wish to buy what we build.
I imagine I encounter a broader cross section r society in a daily basis than you do in the rarefied world iof your private sector healthcare role.
I’ve tried to explain to you that private schools doesn’t equal Eton, which you keep referring to. I can only assume that you feel some residual guilt that you weren’t able to offer a private school education to your children. I see no other explanation for your objectionable views on this subject.

Fair play to your Plumber mate, a lot of people nowadays have only just started work by the time they are 25. Sounds like he gave Uni a miss & got a trade.

Our build costs went through the roof post Brexit…. Not a good move. Replacing highly skilled and integrated immigration with less skilled immigration. Talk about an own goal! Put me off the Tories for 8 years, until I realised how much worse Labour are!!! No doubt next we’ll be hearing from delightful folk who think taxing education is a good and fair policy

The problem we have is skilled tradesmen are reaching retirement age. Instead of taking on apprentices 20 years ago, construction companies found it cheaper to bring in ready made tradesmen from the Eu.. We are now paying the price

Well done you , I fear many leaving Uni will not have achieved that. the point I am making is we need skilled tradesmen as well as academics. Leaving school getting an apprenticship enables you to be earning a good living at an earlier age.

How did you use the money “better”? What could be better than helping your children? So much guilt. Clothes, holidays, nice cars? I know where our money is better spent, and it’s on our children, and giving them the best opportunities we can, which contrary to your prejudices does not mean Eton, but rather a broad width of opportunity with sport, arts, music, drama etc.

Fwiw, my parents paid for me to go to a “private” (independent) school. It was appalling - terrible teachers, narrow-minded philosophy, not a clue or care what the kids were up to, bullying was rife.

Left as soon as I could (15, with 2 O levels) after the school told me I wasn’t “University material”. I’d have been much better off at a state school. As it was took me another 15 years to properly reach my educational potential (professional qualification via f/e college + a 1st via the OU).

If it's not too personal a question when was this?

I left uni in the mid 90s got my first graduate job earning 15/16k per year locally. A house could be bought on cemetery road in Ipswich for less than 50k (48k if memory serves me right). Am pretty sure graduates nowadays couldn't afford to buy a house right out of uni.

Guess choice is down to the parents not the kids. Keeping up with Jone's and all that bollarks. I live close a private school, car park is full 4x4's.

My daughter is currently doing supply teaching and I dropped her off at very prestigious prep school this morning because it was in the middle of nowhere and she isn't the most confident driver.

My 12 year old battered Kia C'eed certainly looked out of place amongst the Chelsea tractors dropping off their kids.

There's more to it than that as well, all the big firms are private now and most specialist work is subbed out so there aren't the big council firms, or nationalised electricity/gas who can be training people up and then managing their estates.

National education policy has looked down on construction for years, and it's been a mistake because they are good jobs, with lots of opportunities (and most importantly is about the only job that helps you get on and then climb the property ladder because you learn relevant skills and meet useful people)
