It is tragic and shocking how attacks on minorities have become the norm in this country. It is just over 10 years since gay marriage became legal but that seems a completely different era.

It just blows my mind how quickly people want to be offended by something rather than doing literally 30secs worth of digging to find out what actually happened There must be something seriously wrong with people who would rather be angry than informed
See Lego is offensive now. (n/t) on 11:16 - Feb 8 with 5399 views | lowhouseblue | the telegraph et al are being silly and hysterical and it is a non-story. it's agenda driven and playing to the beliefs of its readers. but the science museum is being equally silly. referring to connectors as male and female is a very traditional BIOLOGICAL analogy. it has absolutely nothing to do with gender or heteronormativity. biologically stuff typically procreates by sticking one thing inside another thing - nothing to do with gender. the science museum is being just as baiting as the telegraph.
| And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show |

You think the naming of some connectors as male and some as female has absolutely nothing to do with gender????

It wasnt the science museum in its normal guise who said it- its specifically a project about seeing things from a non CIS pov. More to the point, you miss the point. Which is about entirely innocent everyday language that helps ground things as "normal" which, as a by product which most people would not even think about, makes certain groups feel abnormal. Thats it. Once again, the mindset that something is either common sense or its "woke" is making people who can't understand nuance, look silly. The point they make has some merit and is worth thinking about. They are not saying that there is a massive problem or that lego or even male/female connectors are something that needs banning or criticising. They are just saying- "look how language effects as all, its worth thinking about". [Post edited 8 Feb 12:53]

Don't know. It was just the first thing I clicked on that reported the full story of what the science museum was actually doing

Gender affirming care can range from puberty blockers to surgery. It isn't a euphemism though.

"innocent everyday language that helps ground things as "normal"" biology is a perfectly 'normal' scientific reality. throughout biology it is common for male reproductive organs to stick out externally and female reproductive organs to be internal and accessed for reproduction via an opening. what could possibly be wrong with language which grounds that biological reality as "normal"? biological sex is normal. what the science museum is doing is pretending that a long established biological analogy which is grounded in our language is instead saying something about gender, that is socially constructed categories which didn't even exist in common use when people started talking about connecting mechanical parts as 'male' and 'female'. whatever point they may be trying to make involves them knowingly distorting the very etymology of our language.

It can also mean sensible empathetic discussion and support, rather than opposition which is widely demontrated to lead to serious issues and suicidal ideation.

Again, you are missing the point. No one has said that biology is not a normal scientific reality.
