I know we don't like context here, but there's also a (much) higher bar for "alarm, harassment and distress" for police officers than the general public.
My guess is that the jury might have had some of that sort of info and it contributed to the outcome |

Same thing here though surely - the copper said he was shocked, upset and humiliated by the comment calling stupid and white but only remembered to mention that 11 months after his initial statement. Think it's more a case that there is no guilt here for racially aggravated harassment because the police officer clearly didn't actually get particularly offended by her words.
Kerr was being an absolute idiot to the coppers (although when I spoke to my missus about it she said she'd understand the context of them being scared and worried if a cab driver did the same to her and a friend which caused the initial argument). |  | | |

....so he drove her to the old bill station. She then smashed the window of his cab and gave the copper the abuse when they got there.
If she'd have just paid up when he asked her, I suspect she wouldn't have ended up being charged for racial harassment. | |

I haven't trawled through the 2nd page onwards so apologies if this has been mentioned but:
Her defence is that she was not insulting him but pointing out that he was treating her with white privilege. How the officer has insisted to take offence and pursue it as racist is odd. The release of the video footage showed neither in a good light. It was clear Kerr was wound up and rather than attempt to diffuse the situation the officer clearly spoke to her in a way that was designed to increase her anger. Of course, none of us know whether there was more context from the rest of the interaction leading up to it.
Would my response to being told that I am soo white by someone who is not white be comparable to a racial slur directed at someone due to the colour of their skin? I don't believe so at all.
If Kerr had simply called the officer stupid and asked him whether it was because she was not white that he wasn't listening to her would the officer have arrested her and continues to bring the case? I don't think it is a crime to call a police officer stupid. |  |
