If you had to choose one player that we missed out on 16:44 - Mar 7 with 3807 viewsNutkins_Return

...that might have made a big difference this season who would it be?

If say Ben Sheaf (caveat is he has missed time injured but sliding door wouldn't have got that injury). I've never seen him have a bad game, is a great size and technically superb. Makes midfield tick, silky on the ball with great passing range. Reminds me of Declan Rice a lot but obviously a step down. Natural successor to Morsy and him and Cajuste would be ideal. He's a bit more mobile than Philips (who has done well at times as well). Cov season was massively derailed by his injury and they have gone out and spent big champ money as cover.

(Other mentions would b F ioanidis but his form dropped and Delap great. Hamer I thought would have been great as well).

Wasn’t Rushworth the goalkeeper we enquired about first?

I think if we had Flynn Downes in our squad we'd have more points - maybe not much but a few more.

Agree with the above answer of our no 1 keeper.

Also had we signed Jaden in the summer we'd be £15m better off - or had the money to invest in other areas of the pitch.

Would rather have spent the money from Muric, Clarke and Philogene on Rutter from Leeds. Not sure he would have come here, but he would have been massive for us. I was banging the drum for Sheaf last summer as well. Think he is a great player. I was also hoping we would retain Moore. He would have been very useful to have had around.

I'd say the biggest difference would have been getting the goalkeeper recruitment right first time.

Ao Tanaka for me. Best player at Portman Road in the pre season friendly against Fortuna Düsseldorf. He cost Leeds about £3 million and has been one of the best players in the championship this season.

Fair play nobody has said Batistuta.

And credit to me for not saying Lee Trundle.

Ao Tanaka. Can't understand why we didn't sign him up.

Think Kieffer Moore would have been a better option than Al Hamadi while Hirst was injured.

I agree re Moore. I think a player who is big and can bring others into the game like him would have been an asset. No, he’s not the best player I’ve ever seen but he does stuff Delap hasn’t learned yet, would have offered more than AAH and knew the club.

Tanaka? Yes, looks good in the Championship, but that doesn’t mean he a play in the Premier League..

Downes? Hardly ripped it up for Southampton and while I don’t know the bloke I’m not convinced he’d have made a huge difference. Maybe and to contradict myself he’d certainly have offered more than Cajuste and especially Phillips.

I genuinely think we would have less points with Hladky. As well as he did at times last season he's miles off a premier league keeper and hasn't done well at Burnley. Muric is a better keeper than him and won us some points and lost us some points. At best I think Hladky does similar.

Mistakes Hladky made last year would have been ruthlessly punished as with Muric and he would have had even less time and a lot more pressure and a lot more shots to save.

If it's keeper wise then clearly Palmer was the man to get in the summer.

I agree. Both Hladky and Muric are nervous sorts of keeper, both have their strengths, (Hladky footwork, Muric shot-stopping and claiming high balls usually) but both also have weaknesses (Hladky presence, both decision making and communication) which as you say are ruthlessly punished in the PL, and nervous keepers need to be brilliant all-rounders in order to succeed (Pickford, to some extent).

Hladky's confidence would have been destroyed by his lack of presence inviting PL forwards to force a lot of mistakes out of him, just like Muric's has. But I agree that Muric has more redeeming qualities particularly given we were never going to invite the press just as much as we did in the Championship.

Worth repeating, that.

The only thing is that I think McKenna may have been quicker to make the change had Hladky stayed rather than Muric being an expensive new signing.
