Musings for next seasons squad 11:36 - Mar 16 with 7414 views_clive_baker_

Palmer, Walton, U21
Johnson, Clarke, O’Shea, Woolfy, Burgess, Davis, Townsend
Taylor, Morsy, Humphreys
Hutchinson, Burns, Ogbene
Broadhead, Chaplin
Szmodics, Clarke, Philogene
Hirst

Departures: Axel (regrettably), Delap for big dough. I would accept selling Greaves if we can get the sort of money we paid out and get Burgess tied down on a longer deal. Muric, AAH, Harness, Luongo. Phillips, Cajuste, Enciso, Godfrey loan departures. Slicker or Walton perhaps given they both take a squad place. I think it’s possible Hutchinson goes as well if we get a good offer, but I’d love to see him stay.

Need to strengthen in CM & up front. 2 or 3 choice loan additions, otherwise we hopefully don’t need to do too much depending on finances. I would be very happy with that squad and back McKenna to get us purring in the championship next season.

I assume Davis and Delap will be off, so…

Palmer, GK

O’Shea, DR
Woolfenden, DC
Greaves, DC
NEW LEFT BACK/Townsend/Humphreys, DL

Downes MC (inevitable signing, I welcome it)
????? MC

Philogene, AMR
Hutchinson, AMC
Broadhead/Clarke, AML

Hirst CF

Already looks pretty strong IMO, just needs some serious investment in the middle.

Muric could be a top Championship keeper as well.

A deuded part of me wonders if we can or have at least started to step up our recruitment, and will bring in a couple of decent up and coming players from overseas, who can bed in and push on in the shallower waters of the championship and raise our starting point when we go back up next season.
Well a man can dream can't he!
But yeah, a couple of feisty dynamic central midfielders, a young swashbuckling right back and a couple of thoroughbreds up front, one ready, one young and we'll walk it....maybe!!

If we’re going to spend money on a CM it’d be on Cajuste (assuming he would be agreeable to a spell down one tier). He’s now reached the point of lasting the game, and was easily our best player yesterday, and in recent weeks.

Downes and Cajuste would be a cheat code. However issue with Cajuste is not affording the fee, it's that when fit he's a top half Prem player and will have better offers.

I would stick with our 3 keepers and let Muric go. Johnson and Clarke are really good options for the Championship, as are Woolfy, O'Shea, Burgess and Greaves. Townsend will be great in the Championship, so just need 1 other there. I would be ok with selling Davis, Hutchinson, Philogene and Delap as long as the money is good. We only paid a million for Davis, so virtually all profit. Get our money back on Hutchinson and Philogene and around the £30M mark for Delap. We will need 2 in midfield along with Taylor, Morsy and Luongo.
Up front we obviously need 2 others.

Palmer, Walton, Slicker.
Johnson, Clarke, Woolfy, O'Shea, Burgess, Greaves, Townsend, 1xLB.
Morsy, Taylor, Luongo, 2xCM.
Ogbene, Burns, Szmodics, Chaplin, Clarke, Broadhead.
Hirst, 2xCF.

I think that squad would have a more than decent chance of Promotion.

I think Greaves and Philogene will do well in the championship as they have done previously and will be better for the prem experience.

Don’t get me wrong there’s a player in there, especially at Champ level. It’s more the financial side I guess, if we need to raise £60m this summer (pure speculation on my part) I’d rather it was from Delap, Muric (lol) and Greaves at a decent price if it meant keeping all 3 of Omari, Philogene & J. Clarke. They could ‘cook’ under McKenna next season as the yoof might say.

Wouldn’t be shocked to see Szmodics leave, was pushing for a move to Saudi in January apparently

I'm going to throw a name in here as a CM investment for the future (if not next season). George Abbott, 19 year old Spurs CM who is currently on loan and a regular starter for Notts County.

I've watched Notts several times this season and this kid's got it all. Covers the whole pitch, superb on the ball, likes a tackle, drives the team forwards and can score goals. I'd be looking at him very closely (and I'm sure a number are).

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

I’m sure the wages are equivalent to a decent lottery win but ending your career to go play in front of three men and a camel will always be a weird choice .

Would be a shame to lose him as very proven at championship level, but could see why a big pay day at his age would appeal and no personal loyalty to the club- I could see it happening if interest again in the summer

Much of our transfer business this season has been investing for the future. Sometimes we have to look to the present.

I have seen absolutely nothing to think I’d want Philogene and J.Clarke as our wide man next season.

Both have looked miles off it, and physically look nothing like a usual KMc player, which is a real surprise given the importance KMc puts on that aspect.

They've looked off it in the Prem but, barring a miracle, we aren't going to be playing in the Prem next season. Last season they were two of the best wide forwards in the Championship so seems a bit mad to write them off. They'll be important players for us next season and both still have time on their side to make the step up to this level in future, hopefully with us.

Does the saudi league have a different season start and end date? Apparently when I was looking back a little while ago about dane scarlett. You can play for three clubs if that third club was in a different season.. ( something like that)

If it's a summer season, like in Ireland, I think. If I remember rightly, Colin Healy was part of the legal case which led to a change in the rules on that front. I think Saudi is through the winter though, although can be corrected if not.
