Well, it looks like most of you lot won’t be visiting America any time soon.

I should be ok though having never uttered a word against the odious, deranged, orange shtgibbon. Hail Trump!!

That's not how you spell it.

For what its worth, exerting direct government pressure on a law firm that acted against you, is neither far right nor far left. It is just fascist / dictatorial / authoritarian.

Classic Putin stuff.

Trump and Musk are actually pushing at these boundaries right now, with no apparent difficulty. I think he is actually pushing to become a US Putin.

It's a pattern. Someone posts something critical of far right politicians/politics. You pipe up going "yeah but the left" and deliberately misrepresent people's views (which you've done again here by the way). You get your arse handed to you repeatedly but keep doubling down anyway. The thread gets derailed. I'm not going to play your game this time but you might want to reflect on why you are so keen to deflect criticism of far right politics constantly. Have a good day.

I’m making the point that people like you are highly selective in their defence of free speech. Essentially you only mention free speech when it’s being pulled back by someone you disagree with politically. The rest of your post is just your usual crap to try and weasel out of engaging with that. It’s just the usual waffle when you have no reasoned answer.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

Supposed to be over in Silicon Valley in a few weeks for a couple of conferences, dependent on my recovery from some surgery this week. First time back out since election.

Should be easier for me travelling now than it used to be as I have a new passport, as my previous passport had several Saudi, Russian and Africa visas in it. Often used to get pulled into a little room for clarification of previous travels!

I’ve been there a fair number of times in the past 35 years. It’s a great country or should I say countries within countries.

There’s always been a huge difference in how they see others, if they see them at all, and the truth. Let alone how they see themselves. I know everyone does that, but not to the extent of certain Americans.

Given that country has shifted to authoritarian where all forms of objection to he who is never wrong are being shut down, the hypocrisy of calling out European countries on free speech is breathtaking. I noticed Trump closed down Voice of America recently after 80 years because it wasn’t following his script.

I cannot see myself ever visiting the US again, sadly.

America is simply going back to the America before WWII. People forget America was only interested in America then, they had moved away from a global view after WW1, and really wasn't concerned what was going on in Europe.
Roosevelt didn't want to get fully involved in another war in Europe, although he was happy to support and assistance to the UK. Plus he had authorised the sinking of any German ships but had refused to declare war on Germany. It was only after Hilter made the baffling decision to declare war on America, then Roosevelt didn't have an option but to declare war on Germany

Fantastic country.

It is. It’s an amazingly diverse and fascinating country. And I’m talking more about the physical side of it rather than DEI! They have incredible natural landscapes and wildlife.

If I’d lived there I’d want to be right out in the sticks somewhere in a red neck sort of place.

Used to be #1 on my wishlist (Florida, Vegas, Chicago, New York etc).

Now I really wouldn't want to go. Hopefully in the future that will change.

With England kicking off their campaign tonight, wondering what all this means for the World Cup next year. Obvs hope we play our group games in Canada, but if not it feels like Mexico may be the safer country to visit for this than the US possibly? ;o)

It’s the hypocrisy of people who (rightly) criticise trump for pushing back on free speech when we know full well given the chance they’d support doing the exact same thing only to different people.

Which of your three replies will this get?

Have been mainly up the East coast of America and especially like New Orleans, New York and Bar Harbor Maine. Did go to Salem once as well, very nice. Charleston also a lovely place along with Rhode Island. But have decided since Trump got in not to go to America . If he alienates tourists along with these tariffs he will cause more damage than he get's out of it.

They will still have all your travel history and know how many times you’ve been to secondary a new passport number wouldn’t change that but as they’ve obviously let you in after said checks, you’ll be fine.

there are a lot of nice places (and people) in America, mostly near the coasts. I've visited most of the major cities over the years (partly business, partly pleasure) but I doubt I'll be going back. Largely because I've now visited most of the places I want to see (New Orleans & Yellowstone are 2 omissions) but it's also become very expensive, especially if you like a glass of wine.
