I would actually be worried about going there now. Their entry visa thing now asks you to lists online handles, and they seem to be locking people up for weeks without trial in shackles for not being American.
Meanwhile, Musk is suggesting that its Europe that has an issue with free speech. The story you quote is plainly unconstitutional. But none of the mechanisms of state appear to be dealing with it.

I’ve been there a fair number of times in the past 35 years. It’s a great country or should I say countries within countries.
There’s always been a huge difference in how they see others, if they see them at all, and the truth. Let alone how they see themselves. I know everyone does that, but not to the extent of certain Americans.
Given that country has shifted to authoritarian where all forms of objection to he who is never wrong are being shut down, the hypocrisy of calling out European countries on free speech is breathtaking. I noticed Trump closed down Voice of America recently after 80 years because it wasn’t following his script.
I cannot see myself ever visiting the US again, sadly.

Did a 3 week road trip last year around California, Nevada and Oregon and loved every minute of it.
Was planning one this year around Colorado and Utah, but giving it a miss now mainly due to the chaos that is going to happen this summer with all the National Park employees being fired. I was going to visit the 4 NPs in Colorado and the 5 NPs in Utah.
Hopefully even the MAGA lot will turn against the Orange buffoon when they see their stocks go down, prices go up and realise they have been played. Not holding my breath though.
With the WC there next year, i can see quite a lot of European fans being refused entry if they carry on with those random checks.
I live in California and don’t see anything changed here. Nothing to be concerned about for now traveling to any USA city. The best cities to visit are Palm Springs/Joshua Tree, New Orleans, Monterey/Carmel and Washington DC in my opinion. Manhattan has a vibe that everyone should catch once in their life but a visit is not essential.
New travel rules are being administered by many countries including UK and world travel will change over next 6 months. To enter UK now you need prior permission and you have to pay an entry tax.

Outright blackmail from Trump now (or is it extortion? Not sure on the difference). Anyone who denies his corruption and outright evilness is in denial at this point...
well there you go, it turns out that all those who are illiberal and intolerant push back against free speech.
And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

Well yeah, that's always been the worry that people who actually want to limit free speech rather than wanting their to be some kind of standards around truth and decency in politics are highly illiberal folks when you scratch beneath the surface. I don't think anyone has ever disagreed on that.

The free speech hypocrisy is a feature of these libertarian loons wherever they pop up. It’s not unique to Trump’s lot. They seem to mean freedom for them to say whatever they want but shut down anyone who disagrees with them.

and of course maintaining 'standards around truth and decency in politics' is often the excuse illiberal and intolerant people give for pushing back against free speech. apologists for trump will doubtless believe that's what his border guards are doing.

There's no point rehashing a previous debate, suffice to say I still think you're misrepresenting people's positions again to suit your agenda, just like last time, and seeking to derail another thread critical of far right politicians. Incredible to see someone trying to both sides this, but there we go.
I am not going to contribute to your attempts at derailing the thread. Instead I'd rather focus on what is clearly an egregious act in banning someone from entering the country because they've expressed negative views about a pretty horrific individual in Donald Trump.

i'm criticising far right politicians for pushing back against free speech. banning someone from entering the country because they've expressed negative views about trump is clearly egregious. but i'm just not selective in criticising intolerant people who push back against free speech - it isn't something that is unique to trump. your selectivity just weakens your criticism of people like trump.

It's a pattern. Someone posts something critical of far right politicians/politics. You pipe up going "yeah but the left" and deliberately misrepresent people's views (which you've done again here by the way). You get your arse handed to you repeatedly but keep doubling down anyway. The thread gets derailed. I'm not going to play your game this time but you might want to reflect on why you are so keen to deflect criticism of far right politics constantly. Have a good day.
