I just don't see it at all with him. I thought Wet Spam were disappointed to lose him on a free?

The replay shows him totally lose awareness of who is around him. It's concentration more than lack of ability, it seems.

Awful.

If he never wears a blue shirt again, he can have no complaints.

He's been awful every game I saw him play pretty much.

Felt he had so much more work to do tonight, but that was really poor. Looks far too tired and should have been subbed earlier.

Can argue he was a bit unlucky with the goal as it was just a deflection that happens - but when he is seemingly dropped in once a month he’s never going to build consistency

It's funny how subjective football can be. I thought he was quite good. It will be an interesting battle between him and harry to nail down the right back spot in the championship next season, IF we go back to a more attacking right back instead of it being a donacien/tuanzebe type. My heart wants harry to get it but i have a feeling we'll see johnson's quality come through.

Another 2-1 away win with him on the right in front of Axel.

West Ham friends of mine weren’t disappointed he had left to join us. Appreciate the game is about opinions and these vary from person to person.

No, a lot of West Ham fans were glad to see him go.

What "quality"? I'm not convinced he's an upgrade on Donacien tbh, he's certainly worse defensively and doesn't offer much going forward.

Can see the attributes, he's physically strong and has a really good touch. It's the bit where it comes together that isn't quite there at the moment IMO.

Some of that is concentration, some of that consistency, some jus t poor judgement (a couple of balls he gave away early on were particularly poor but hardly the only culprit last night).

I suspect he would look really good in the Championship but not sure he'll still be here, certainly hasn't provided enough of the PL experience we wanted from him.

I actually think much of it is concentration. He switches off far too easily at times. But, on the flip side, he's very game and a good athlete. Definitely going to offer us plenty in the Champ, although Kieran doesn't seem to trust him in the hybrid RB role.

As you say he has the attributes and the ability, but he always seems to be waiting for things to happen, particularly in his defending and positioning, rather than taking command of a situation. Getting caught on the ball just outside the box near the end last night was crazy - made me wonder if his peripheral vision is fully functional.

He's clearly an intelligent and committed player, but at 25 he needs to be better in those situations to play to his true (high) potential. He's what my old manager would have called too 'polite' on the pitch, but I'm hopeful that he can come good next season and add a bit of nasty and aggressive and dominant to his game.

I don't see him as a right back because, as others have pointed out, he does occasionally switch off and lack awareness of who is around him. But I think that in front of Tuanzebe or another solid right back, he is a competent right-sided utility player who works hard, is good in transition, and has an exceptional eye for a long crossfield pass. I'm happy to have him in the team in the role he played against Bournemouth.

Johnson on 18:18 - Apr 3 with 1946 viewsSuperblue95

The amount of times his clearances travel less than 10 yards and go straight to an opposition player is staggering. Very slow to close down crosses too. He’s also statistically the worst full back in the division when it comes to being beaten by wingers/attackers.

He’s very good at playing long passes to be fair to him and is a fit lad so gets up and down the pitch well.

If we could find somebody to take him next season then I’d be jumping all over it though.

Funny old game - thought he did really well other than a bad moment towards the end when someone came on his blind side, nicked the ball and he gave the foul.

Think he has really good physical qualities, hits a lovely cross field, and adds a bit more defensive quality - thought him and Tuanzebe worked well as a defensive pairing.

He gave the ball away 21 times only a 59% pass completion rate. He tries but is a liability loses the ball in the wrong area's and a lack of awareness of what's happening around him. Probably good enough in the championship.

I'm normally quite balanced and pragmatic (at least I think I am) but I was screaming last night at the number of times he gave the ball away.

More of a goalkeeping error than Johnson to be fair.

Looked like Johnson went for the ball but was just a touch high hence the poor contact - looked scruffy nevertheless.

Don’t know where that stat that he lost the ball 21 times, he only attempted 17 passes?

It was a lazy uncommitted clearance which he bobbled kindly into the path of a striker. Nearly cost us the game later too.

The stats above, if correct, are shockingly bad.

I don't understand the stick that Johnson gets and thought he played a crucial part in our victory on Wednesday.

The EADT journos take the same view as me about him at Bournemouth.

Stuart Watson "Ben Johnson ran himself into the ground at right wing-back. Backed up by the fit-again Axel Tuanzebe, those two's combined athleticism and aggression shut down the threat of Bournemouth's left-sided danger duo of Milos Kerkez and Antoine Semenyo."

Alex Jones "A good return to the starting lineup. Doubled up with Tuanzebe to handle Semenyo, but offered a lot going forward, with some really nice touches in the final third. His passing range is really impressive, but he was shattered by full time." Rating 7

There's a bit of a hangover from West Ham where he got singled out (rather unfairly) and the fact that he's not a regular. You can see in the reaction to the goal people blaming him and ignoring the errors from Morsy and Palmer - now Muric is out of the firing line it seems we need to move elsewhere for a scapegoat.

I don't think Johnson is POTY but a lot of what he does is missed or ignored until someone intercepts a pass or whatever. There seems a reluctance to accept that collectively we are poorer than our opponents and this reflects the league position etc.

The result was fantastic, but you can argue the performance against Bournemouth wasn't great/typical whatever for lots of reasons. I'll take scrappy wins from hereonin though.

Opinions will obviously differ, but I thought he was an accident waiting to happen (and did). He made 3 or 4 bad errors, only one cost us a goal but on another night Bournemouth would have further punished him.

In mitigation, Bournemouth are impressive down that side and ultimately we won the game. I don't hate the guy, can see what is good about him, but I'm far from convinced he is premier league quality.
