So much for the smash the gangs approach,Rwanda was not by any means perfect but it had migrants here in NI going down south to get away from it in such numbers that the Irish police actually started doing checks at the border!

I think you have got me confused with someone who searches for random people on the internet who agree with them.
I’m not confused about you at all as I’m sure most on this site aren’t.
She is appearing as an expert witness about immigration in a parliamentary committee debate and schooling the renowned knuckle dragging racist Jonathan Gullis ex MP about his pathetic ill informed views on immigration.
His views seem pretty similar to yours actually. Perhaps you should take 2 minutes to actually listen to an expert talking about the issue & maybe educate yourself about this subject.

I have contact with a good number of these "foreigners" who work at Ipswich hospital and, it would perhaps be beneficial for you to have a chat with these foreigners and, listen to their concerns about immigration, before you persecute family members, or would said foreigners also be bracketed into your "racist" category. Its very easy to continually bandy around the word racist as soon as someone has a different opinion to yourself!
I was asked by a junior doctor from Iran, do the UK government have an agreement to send all Romanian nationals to Ipswich, as the majority of patients we see and treat are almost 50% Romanian, would they be racist?
In what context did this junior doctor, with their terrible grasp of both maths and statistics, ask you this question?

You pick them up and take them back to the shores of France in a dignified fashion.
What gets my goat the most is that these people have come through MULTIPLE safe countries en-route to the UK. They've had multiple opportunities to seek asylum in safe nations, especially France, but choose to come across to the UK. I wonder why?
If these men of fighting age are *genuinely* fleeing poverty and war-torn nations, why wouldn't they settle for the first safe nation they land in?
“ … also incorrect to say that refugees should seek refuge in the first safe country they come to. Under the UN Refugee Convention, there is no obligation on refugees to do this—an interpretation which is upheld in UK case law. Those trying to cross the Channel can legitimately claim asylum in the UK if they reach it.”
They do and France actually receives a much larger number of asylum claims than Britain – around 167,000 in 2023, compared to 67,000 in the UK.
Those who arrive in France often choose to remain there and a relatively small proportion of the asylum seekers intend on moving on to the UK.
As for the rest of the EU, in 2023 Germany remained the top destination for asylum seekers receiving more than 350,000 asylum claims, almost a third of all EU applications. Spain and Italy also received a significant number of applications, 163,000 and 136,000 claims respectively.
Reasons refugees travel to the UK
Family ties
According to Care 4 Calais, the main reason many refugees continue their journey to the UK is because of family connections. Refugees who have been forced to leave their homes due to war and persecution face having to start their lives from scratch.
Just as anyone might seek help from family or friends in a crisis, refugees often aim to reunite with relatives who can provide support in a new country.
In a recent poll conducted by the IRC, 67% of the UK public said they would want to be able to choose which country they sought asylum in if they were forced to flee their homes. …”

Zoe Gardner?
In what capacity is she an expert witness aside from in her own brain?
Oh and by the way BG, not sure I like a complete tank like you calling me a racist, so do me a favour and eat your own arse baby!
“Hello, I'm your MP. Actually I'm not. I'm your candidate. Gosh.”
Boris Johnson canvassing in Henley, 2005.
One thing I've never quite understood about this premise. If a patrol boat happens upon an overcrowded dingy and the seas are particularly treacherous, what happens then? Pick them up and take them to safety or block them and send them back risking capsize and inevitable loss of life?
Edit: Hadn't seen BLs post when I wrote this.

Some people think that they should be left to drown:
I have also seen comments about Machine Guns being used, not as a deterrent, but actually being used.
Which in turn goes back to the language used by Katie Hopkins in 2015. The original article is no longer on the Sun website, but is archived by the University of Southampton in a pdf file here:

Is a decent summary of the points made in the video which is expert witness evidence in a parliamentary committee debate hearing about immigration and well worth listening to for 90 seconds

She was asked to give evidence at a parliamentary committee as an expert witness.
That’s why I called her an expert. I’m not sure that’s too hard to comprehend for all but the very hard of thinking.
Perhaps stop saying things that sound racist and then you won’t be portrayed as one.
Asked by who?
What do you actually know about these things? I'm giving evidence as an expert witness in court in three weeks - and although I am an actual expert, I haven't had to give any credentials. Do you know why? Because there is no mechanism to do so, you can self certify.
I admit I'm a bit tired and grumpy but I have to say that you are really pissing me off. You know absolutely nothing about me and your only weapon is to brand the racist word about. You haven't got a fecking clue mate.

Why are you questioning him, what do you know?
My wifes cousin is in Ipswich hospital on the front desk of one of the wards and is constantly moaning about the same kinda thing. She's been there since the year dot.
She's black by the way.
It's true, you can't move at [redacted] hospital for Poles turning up at A&E with broken arms after trying to catch and eat swans.
I had nasi goring for my tea last night, by the way.

Come off it Lucan, you don't really think 50% of people being treated in Ipswich hospital are Romanian do you?
Trust the process. Trust Phil.

No, I'm not saying geography trumps human rights. But if an immigrant from say, North Africa, reaches the UK they've likely travelled through the whole of Europe to get there.
Most European nations speak English and I *highly* doubt most of these immigrants crossing the Channel have families in the UK waiting for them. They'd be living with them instead of being put up in hotels, no?
Trying to enter another country illegally is a crime as well you know. Are you condoning that then?
Entering a country for the purpose of seeking asylum, is NOT illegal. They only become illegal when their claim is rejected and they fail to leave. You know this though.
Well that didn’t take long did it? Please explain where what I posted was in anyway racist! Legal and safe routes exist, how do you think the majority of migrants get here? Just for some info it is currently costing the taxpayer £147.63 a day just to pay for the hotels add on to that the cost of other accommodation being used and it’s costing an absolute fortune. Still if you all want to bury your heads in the sand and pretend every one of the boat people are fleeing war and persecution more fool you! Let alone the fact we have no idea where they are from as documents etc are ditched in the water on the way across Just to make clear in my view legal migration is too high but if they are here through the proper channels fair enough! If that makes me racist call the cops👍
"Legal and safe routes exist"
They don't for the majority of the people who use their life savings to risk their lives on crossing The Channel,
Exactly. Their election campaign then became, "Stop the boats" It's all very deliberate.
So what was Labours pledge then? Wasn’t it “we will stop the boats by smashing the gangs” was I wrong in hearing Cooper spout this constantly? All of you calling people racist for wanting the boats stopped should by your own logic be calling the Govt (of any colour) racist for trying to stop them!

They don't have to risk their lives though do they. They've already made it to that safe area known as Europe.
Your argument seems to be that because we're an island we should be exempt from taking asylum seekers. We already take fewer than the likes of France and Germany and people have explained many times why people seeking asylum might want to do so in the UK. Why do you not want the UK to help people fleeing war and persecution? Asylum seekers make up a small proportion of our overall migration numbers.
