Whatever your view on this crisis it is NOT sustainable!

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cddezjy97vro

So much for the smash the gangs approach,Rwanda was not by any means perfect but it had migrants here in NI going down south to get away from it in such numbers that the Irish police actually started doing checks at the border!

How is “virtue signalling” different to the same group of posters constantly moaning about immigrants, lefty bumfests and the like, using made up statistics and media scare stories? Whilst pretending they’re some sort of silenced and persecuted group for being challenged?

I think we need a term for this, character flaw signalling maybe?

Big up me, as I'm an immigrant and I've never committed a crime.

I'm descended from immigrants. My uncle traced our family tree back to one of the generals who came over for the Norman Conquest in 1066. I think he came on quite a big boat though.

It's actually EXACTLY what is constantly peddled on here by all the disaffected odd bods.

This site sometimes is a virtue signalling we dream.

Got knows what the odd bods are going to do when they hear what the Supreme Court has ruled on today.

I've not seen a single post on here where someone has said they welcome immigration but are unhappy with unchecked immigration and been called a racist for it. Feel free to link me up to one.

So, you are saying that if for example, someone, anyone on here who said “Stop the boats” or something like that wouldn’t be called out as a racist?

Is that what you are saying?

Depends on the context, obviously.

I’m not deflecting, I’m asking you a question.

Let me tell you something Dolly. This is exactly the reason I usually stay out of these threads, I have always said I think the boat thing is insane, it is absolutely crazy. I don’t accept most of these people are fleeing danger of their lives and I question why they are mostly young men. My thoughts are that women and children should be fast tracked and given a home but single young men can feck off.

And yes, I have been regarded as a racist in such posts, this is why I generally ignore them, and I wish to god I had ignored this one.

Stop behaving like a clown mate, you’re the person who came on here talking about Wog Boxes.

You should probably accept it, as the figures from asylum claims prove the majority are believed to be genuine. It’s not a huge majority though.

“Of the 139,843 small boat arrivals claiming asylum since 2018, just over half (55% or 77,191) had received a substantive decision (as of 24 January 2025, when the data used in this release was taken). Of these, 51,600 had been granted asylum or some other protection status, and 25,591 were refused”. https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/immigration-system-statistics-year-endi

So about 67% of those claims they’ve bothered to process are granted.

He was properly into it - literally spent £100s chasing down old records etc. I think one of the reasons he stopped was it was getting too expensive.

The point is, we're all immigrants somewhere along the line.

Not by me, despite the pathetic dig.

And as I said to Glassers previously, it's not a 'gotcha' bringing up the 'w*g box' incident when it was me who volunteered that embarrassing story in the first place. A pretty low attempt by Lucan there but I didn't report it because it's out of character and he's normally better than that.

Wow! You're an intelligent man Lucan, so surely you know why young, strong, male family members are chosen to make the long, dangerous and exhausting journey to Europe?

Also, you say "I don’t accept most of these people are fleeing danger of their lives" Well I'm afraid the evidence doesn't back your belief up, so I can only presume you're trotting out this line because you heard people like Farage say it. Maybe you should look at the evidence rather than the xenophobic lies.

We should all want to 'stop the boats'. Not because Britain can't cope, but because people are drowning in the seas.

Would have thought if you can cover Dunkirk to Boulogne that's pretty much the vast majority.

I would have thought that with the modern survailance technology we have , that allows us to spot a pick up truck thousands of miles away & take it out with a drone. We should be able check a hundred miles of French coastline.

How much do you reckon that costs to do? How much would it cost to do 24/7?

If you're suggesting "taking out" the boats that's pretty horrendous. If not, how much to keep enough crews on hand to get to the right spot and the boats not being lost?

Given how badly underfunded things are here, is that a good use of funds?

No I wasn't suggesting taking out the boats, I was just pointing out the technology available. As for cost it's one man looking at a computer screen.

But that one man at a screen isn't going to be able to stop the boats leaving, at best he can just watch them heading off.

How does that one man stop the boats? How many drones would need to be in the air 24/7 to cover hundreds of miles of coastline?

Yes agree by the time he's left GCHQ on his horse to warn Boarder Control in Dover the boats may well be here.
