Not sure why but Delap having talks etc before the season is over doesn’t sit quite right with me, just feels weird.

Appreciate there’s loads and loads of interest and needs a lot of time to be sorted etc

Feels a bit, can’t wait to get out of here, if you know what I mean, like he’s not even considered staying.

Probably in everyone's interests to be fair - means Delap gets a full preseason with his new club, we're not sitting watching weeks upon end of tedious headlines and can also look to get our replacements in ASAP.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

To participate in the Club World tournament maybe, should he choose to join a team playing?

Just hope we're doing something similar behind the scenes for our potential incoming.

Indeed.

Also quite nice to have a bit of transparency on the situation rather than being treated like mugs. Wouldn't expect any less from KM though!

Cannot fault the guys effort whenever he has put the shirt on, always gone out there and gave us 110%.

Season is done, we will want that deal done ASAP so don't see the harm. I'm sure he hasn't considered staying because that wouldn't be the right thing to do, he is premier league footballer who should stay in the league.

No big deal.

Well as long as its not only decided two weeks before the season begins if McKenna is staying or going.

I'm not fussed at all.

I imagine the club also want it done and dusted asap so they can get on with their own transfer planning.

I agree, seemed pointless speaking to Man U before they determined if they were going to be in Europe next season. Could have waited another week or 2.

Got to be in the clubs best interests too.

Hopefully means we sell before pre season, and allows us to reinvest earlier than if he hadn’t been allowed to talk to other clubs.

Think it is actually a win / win / win.

Win for us get the money quicker
Win for buying club, he is there for pre-season
Win for Delap, allows him to settle into his new team before the season begins.

The release clause will ensure just that. The buying club has to send the stipulated amount in full to activate the clause. No paying in instalments like a lot of transfer fees.

I imagine it's because of this new transfer window i.e. most teams interested will want him as part of their Club World Cup squads.

EDIT: Don't forget selling him in the 2024/25 financial year will help our PSR picture markedly too. Gives us much more breathing space going into 2025/26.

Happens all the time? McKenna met palace during the season long before promotion was decided. Our season is over and we need to move on quickly. It’s in our interest to get it done in the next few weeks almost as much as his.

I wonder if it is also/instead with the aim of getting it done before the U21 euros kick off. We've been calling out for any business to be done quickly so we know where we stand so it's difficult to also criticise the club for allowing discussions to take place now which should enable that to happen

The club will be encouraging it if anything - we are down and know he’s off so let’s get that cash in and get him off the books.

I think his head was turned as far bavk as January because hes not really been the same over the second half if the season. Understandable in some ways. But I am disappointed that's he's prepared to jump ship after one season. It'll be what it'll be.....

Surely clubs can put offers in outside the transfer windows, just they can't move yet?

If clubs have put in bids to match the release clause, then we have to accept and he's able to speak to those clubs?

Or is that not how it works?

Probably means we'll be getting inflated prices from selling clubs in return though, sadly.

Suspect it would be helpful to have him off the books from an FFP perspective before the end of June, hence why they're actively encouraging him to get himself sorted.

Now I wonder if that might be a way of us getting a few extra £'s. If the clause doesn't kick in until say 30th June we might be able to add a bonus or two.

Get him gone ASAP, so we can start putting in a training plan for AAH to step up. And we can bank the money

To be fair, he’s not featured much of late anyway, and when he has he’s been poor

Absolutely. If we buy and sell him within the same fiscal year, we'll have made a £12m profit for the balance sheet rather than a £15m loss. Quite a big deal for life in the Champ next year.

Hmmm… on 15:01 - May 23 with 1972 viewsJammyDodgerrr

It is weird for sure, but presumably those clubs have already told us they intend to trigger the release clause so we're being grown ups about it and getting it done as quickly as possible. I guess there's also potential that he won't leave so he genuinely is considering the options but it seems like a done deal. I don't mind.

Depends how much we paid upfront, and how many years we split the cost over. We would have had a 15m loss I dont think, more like 3-4m

But it still helps
