Wasn't the obligation to buy £12mil. It's not crazy money. I would imagine we could negotiate now we have haven't gone up. I think the harder thing is getting Cajuste to join.

I’d probably do the deal if it was on for us but on two conditions: (1) can he do enough of a 46-game season and (2) can we nonetheless strengthen the midfield, and get its balance right, with the addition of a really tough competitor who has a sharp defensive conscience. They’re big questions. On form I really like him but I need convincing that he’s totally right for us in the future. | |

Injury prone player for that kind of money in the championship? Flatters to deceive as far as I’m concerned. Our midfield has been desperately poor and he’s been part of that.

I think the deal was that we signed him if we stayed up so if we decide he is value at that agreed price and we are selling Delap and maybe another, I wouldn't be surprised if we still offer that deal. It is then whether he is OK with the wages on offer and playing in the Championship.
As for why he played, Luongo won't be here next season either so was there another option really? EDIT: I guess Jack Taylor could have started. [Post edited 25 May 21:50]

I would have thought this clause is something we insisted on, not Napoli, i.e. it makes no difference to them whether we stay up or not, they are willing to sell for £10m, the clause was to protect us if we didn't want him in the Championship.
