He always seemed to display the most infinite patience. And I'm sure he needed it.

RiP

A rare beast, he was an almost universally liked referee.

He'll be missed.

By all accounts a top guy

One of my best mates here in Sheffield used to be fourth official a fair few times years ago before Uriah went “mainstream” and he said as a bloke he was superb. Patient , a true gentlemen and gained upmost respect from players and officials alike.

RIP

RIP only 65
I never saw him live but apparently he refereed 7 of our games with 3 wins and 2 draws. I remember him on MoD making some top decisions without all the technology to help.

That was Andy D'Urso.

RIP.

Can remember the first time we had him…. The 2-0 home win over Norwich in 1997 (Mason & Taricco) and he was excellent - didn’t stand for any of their diving and cheating and let the game flow.

One of the few refs of the Hollywood EPL era who didn't make it all about them.
He always struck me as a machine. Very fit.
65 is no age really.
Sad.

I remember West Ham fans, in a moment of rare humour, serenading him with a chorus of ‘You Sexy Thing’
RIP Uriah, a trailblazer and an excellent referee.

Sometimes I giggle about the frothing lunatic who’s put me on ignore and now has to constantly log out to see what I’ve said. Beneath that counterfeit persona lurks the same pitifully desperate egomaniac.

While groundbreaking as a black referee, he was first and foremost one of the best match officials irrelevant of his skin colour I have seen.

Authoritative without being a dictator or the need to be centre of attention - question should be why do we not have more match officals like this anymore?

Yep absolutely. I met him at a couple of clubs in Yorkshire and I imagine it’s rare that you see an ex ref who is clearly so well liked and respected.

A proper ref! one of a kind and done a huge amount for the community and stood his ground over discrimination. RIP

Can’t believe he was 65 and retired 17 years ago.

Seems like 5 years ago he was reffing

oh, I see he reffed the Charlton away disaster on New Years Day 2002.
Great ref, sadly taken early. Had a rough last 6 months or so of life.

I also can’t believe he retired that long ago…time is bloody odd.
