10’000 steps a day on 04:21 - Jul 1 with 1711 views | Dubtractor | Morning benters. I've actively avoided getting a smartwatch or anything similar, as I think I'd become obsessive about things like this, but instead just make sure I stay active. Lots of walking, usually 2 of playing football, badminton or going for a bike ride each week. Loads of time gardening.

Good morning to you. I have been doing the walking thing for about ten days now, comparing it to cycling it seems to take forever, however it is more relaxing than cycling,I also get to stroke loads of dogs and cats on my walks. You can stop, sit and chill out for a bit if it takes your fancy.Whereas cycling I always feel the need to keep going and I must do 30 miles in under 2 hrs which I always manage, but it’s blooming hectic you know.

10’000 steps a day on 08:04 - Jul 1 with 1319 views | StochesStotasBlewe | Morning Benters. As you well know being a gardener, it is fairly easy to do 10,000 steps walking behind a mower, cutting hedges etc and there isn’t many days where I won’t have done at least that amount. Heading towards the old retirement age so I keep a weekly eye on these things and am doing more steps per day now than in previous years. Hope things are going well for you dear boy.
| We have no village green, or a shop.
It's very, very quiet.
I can walk to the pub. |

10’000 steps a day on 08:18 - Jul 1 with 1262 views | BlueandTruesince82 | 10000 steps was a number that was hit on by scientists leading up to the Tokyo Olympics where they were giving out pedometers as a way of promoting the event. What it was that got them to 10k I dont recall, science i guess. But I think thats the background

10’000 steps a day on 08:35 - Jul 1 with 1221 views | Steve_M | Generally, yes although far more as a result of walking for at least an hour a day most days than a box ticking exercise. Suspect it works for some people as a motivation to start doing exercise and any incremental improvement for an individual is better than nothing. If your starting point is higher, as yours is, then it's incidental. Using that exercise time to do something more relaxing than your regular exercise seems a good idea though.

10’000 steps a day on 08:53 - Jul 1 with 1104 views | gainsboroughblue | I just have a step count app on my phone rather than a watch. Only steps I do while carrying it will register but if I make sure I do 10k steps on a walk with the phone in the rucksack, I can pretty confident I've done about another 1k on top of that as a bonus. I have had smart watches but I either lose them, break them or just simply forget/not bother to wear it. If you make sure you're on your feet and walking around for an hour and a half/two hours, it should be a target you hit without thinking too much about it. [Post edited 1 Jul 8:55]

10’000 steps a day on 08:54 - Jul 1 with 1102 views | DanTheMan | I probably do with dog walking. One decent walk a day is enough to tip me over, usually. The 10,000 number comes from a Japanese health campaign. More movement is good, but there's no hard and fast number. I believe that, in terms of health, you're better off doing some shorter but brisker movements to get your heart rate going, which I tend to do on my walks by simply upping the pace a bit.

10’000 steps a day on 10:09 - Jul 1 with 793 views | Cotty | It'll be like 5 portions of fruit and veg a day. The truth is we should be doing more of both than suggested, but these targets have the biggest impact on public health (because they are catchy and easily achievable).

It all depends on height and stride length etc But it’s roughly 18’000 to 20’000 steps a day 👍

10’000 steps a day on 12:40 - Jul 1 with 554 views | Freddies_Ears | I have been monitoring for several years, using basic fitbit trackers. Roughly, if I average <10,000 a day, I put weight on. At around 10,000 a day, my weight is static. From 15,000 a day I lose around 2 kilos a month. Rest of regime unchanged throughout. Ah well, back to 15,000 steps again very soon! (5,000 steps is about 40 mins brisk walking for me)

As far as I understand, the Japanese symbol for 10,000 resembles a person walking, so no Science involved!
10’000 steps a day on 12:54 - Jul 1 with 484 views | leitrimblue | Use to working site with a girl who was doing the 10, 000 steps thing. She/we use to hit the 10,000 around lunchtime every day. I would have thought the cycling gets the heart pumping more though?
10’000 steps a day on 13:00 - Jul 1 with 456 views | ThisIsMyUsername | It's all relative. If someone only does 1,000 at the moment, then doing 2,000 would be a 100% increase, and 10,000 would probably be unattainable/unmanageable at present.

I find mowing on my garden tractor literally bumps the step count on my phone up by about 1,500/hour Just compensates for time phone’s on charge or I’ve forgotten to put it in my pocket though. Generally it’s the daily dog walk, gardening and housework that contribute to my average of about 7.5K/day over a year though, which I don’t think is bad for mid 70s with health issues.

It's a 10,000 step day plus a 40-minute walk. It is a commitment, but not totally out of order!
