… £20m offer in to Middlesbrough for him and we are offering £35k a week to Hackney himself.
Edit - also mentions that whilst he is yet to be tempted by the offer as he wants a Prem move, but no Prem club is offering what we are in terms of fee and wages.

Do Palace spend £20m on him to partner him with Wharton though?
Bearing in mind they still also have Will Hughes (ageing like a fine wine), Jefferson Lerma, Daichi Kamada and Cheick Doucoure.
Trouble with Wharton, from the experts, ok the only Palace supporting mate I know is.... It's taken Wharton a season to get towards the PL level CP require and in many ways still on that journey. Hackney would be the same, so he would be surprised if CP went for a midfield of those two, certainly not at this stage. Although CP buying him and then immediately loaning him out is an option.

It was an example that PL clubs will take a punt on a player like Hackney. Is it much of a punt? He's a England u21 international and highly rated. Take the point, though.... our selling point is he'd be a starting player.
Starting player for strong favourites for promotion, with a very highly respected developmental manager... what's not to like about that?
Hayden Hackney - Alan Nixon… on 08:50 - Jul 27 by Chris_ITFC
Hasn’t been tempted, but Boro left him out yesterday. Hmm.
If the prem clubs aren’t interested he would be silly not to seriously consider us, Kmac has a proven track record at making players much better. We are also one of the favourites to be promoted.

I form all my opinions late, and on the basis of 5 minute compilations on youtube, so I watched this:
Having been super excited about Ruiz a couple of weeks ago, I am now positively throbbing about the prospect of Hackney. Quite similar players (based on my exhaustive research as mentioned above), aren't they, sharp and aggressive and dominant and decisive. But Hackney with the benefit of being England-acclimatised and probably more powerful.
He's definitely got the physicality for the league above and seems to be very decisive, strong and quick into contacts whether that be tackling or skinning an opponent. At Championship level (all of those highlights in one season!) he looks way faster and sharper than the opposition plus has pace to carry decisively and a through ball.
Yes please, with bells on, or Ruiz if we can't or BOTH if we can with Ruiz as understudy and either next to Matusiwa.
I'm spent.
I'm not sure what to think of that video? Half of it is him doing defensive work and the other half is him in the attacking final third. Both impressive, but he does remind me of Jack Taylor when we bought him. Will he fit into our model? Had that video been 75% of him winning the ball then I'd be onboard. He clearly is a talented fella and looks great at drawing a foul. Is he what we need? Of course I back our manager 100%, but is he what we need... There are doubts.

Blues brothers who seems to be a genuine ITK posted yesterday - suggesting he knew he wasn’t going to Palace.
Hopefully it comes together in the coming days. This is all getting rather last minute again and we are very clearly short both up front and in midfield. And two six pointers up to start.

Question is, can we spend that sort of money without an Omari sale?
Of course we can. Tried to sign Downes in January. Sold Delap for 30m and have parachute payments banked for the year. We could probably sign another 1 or 2 ar similar levels.

Problem is how long do we wait?
If he genuinely has his heart set on a move to the PL, his could drag on to the end of the window and become this season’s equivalent of the Broja deal.
We cant afford to let this drag because we are too light in midfield. Think personally we have to put a time limit on the offer.
It's essentially the same story I wrote a couple of weeks ago with some numbers thrown in. The fee figure I was told was lower than that, about half, but seemed likely to increase. It'll probably end up somewhere at the upper end between the two.

This sounds like you’re confident it’ll get done Phil…

So Phil is this Nixon doing what he always does and which seems to me that most of the time he’s wildly inaccurate

McBurnie cannot pass the no dickheads rule.
Yes that it the primary issue with him for sure! And why I wouldn't want him.
As a player he'd actually be a really good fit and nonsense he doesn't score goals. Proven scorer at champ level and has scored a few in top divisions for struggling sides.

Thanks Phil.
Did we ever go back in for Downes? That one seemed like a no brainer after January.
I was told it was a difficult deal for us to do as his wages hadn't been reduced significantly following relegation. The situation at Saints has changed as well since January, of course, with a new manager coming in, so he may not be as keen to get away as he was. I think we'd be interested if there was what we felt was a good deal on the table, however.

Fact he didn't play for them though does suggest it has moved a bit and probably close or agreed at least with the club on price.
Of course it could be a genuine niggle. But seems likes clubs might be at or close to agreement. Whether Hackney agrees is the only question.
Rob Edwards empathised it was a legitimate injury and nothing to do with any transfer. Not that he would admit that but he did seem to go out of his way to say there wasn’t any movement transfer wise.

I'd disagree quite a lot with that - think there's plenty of him winning the ball in midfield (mostly by being sharper than his opponent) and carry it forward, also quite a few tasty through balls. Looks like an all round physical, sharp, decisive, strong 8/6 to me, with the emphasis on the 8.
But based on me watching one video, twice, to be fair!

Not having first and second games of the season being labeled as six pointers. Give your head a wobble, son.
