Woolfenden on 16:24 - Jul 30 by pointofblue | I think we should have stuck with a back three for longer. Though, personal opinion, I don't think O'Shea is that much better than Woolfenden from what we saw last season. I think some (not saying yourself) judge him from his struggles during Lambert's time here. |
Oshea is miles above wolfy as a defender. As a ball player. Maybe not. Imo

Woolfenden on 16:21 - Jul 30 by pointofblue | I think, if we played with a three, Woolfenden would be the first player on the team sheet. He works so well in the middle and our best run last season came with that approach. I personally felt McKenna abandoned it too quickly. In a two, I think O'Shea has.a touch more pace which swings it for him. And Woolfenden is getting to the point, like Broadhead, where he wants first team football. |
That's a very good point. That middle role is perfect for him, he loves to mop up with his pace and allows him to bring the ball out.

We'll have to agree to disagree as I saw things slightly differently last year. I wouldn't disagree with "better" but not "miles better". Certainly not £12m worth of improvement.

He is an obvious one to sacrifice for PSR reasons as well. Not going to be first choice, maybe not even second choice at RCB as Kipre can play there as well. Don't know what sort of fee we could get but would imagine £5m isn't unreasonable and that would be pure profit. Best part of £12m profit on disposal for him and Broadhead. That is broadly what we would realise on Omari if we sold him.

He certainly is not. Manure thru and thru. Be gutted to see him leave but it’s for the best for everyone. Needs to play.

Wouldn't entirely surprise me if he wanted first-team football at this point in his career. Don't think Sheffield United will be back for him though, they're short of cash, from what I gather.

Woolfenden on 16:18 - Jul 30 by jasondozzell | I trust KM's judgement but I really struggle to understand the approach to Wolfy and Broady alike. Wolfy is for my money the most consistent CB over the past 4 years. A really classy player, rolls Royce like at times. He's never had a poor spell imo. Would be very sad to see him go. Especially with the local link. |
I’m a fan of Woolfy, like how comfortable he always looks and doesn’t seem to give you any fear when he’s on the ball, has time etc, however I don’t think he’s been treated badly. He’s not as good as O’Shea who has the pace needed at the top, but Woolfy is absolutely a top drawer squad player and one you’d be very happy to have if O’Shea got an injury. If Woolfy wants first team games above that and can get it at this level and for the right money then he should absolutely be afforded that. Good that he doesn’t want to play second fiddle and think there will be teams who will take him as first choice.

. In English football, a "home grown" player, regardless of nationality, is defined as someone registered with an English or Welsh club for three seasons (or 36 months) before their 21st birthday, or the end of the season in which they turn 21. This means they don't necessarily need to be British, but they must have spent time in the English or Welsh football system during their formative years.

Thanks. So I guess the likes of Philogene, Clarke and Hutchinson will cover that. Or at least some players in the squad will!

If we don’t have him or Humphreys in the named 25 man squad we can only name 8 from the 25 man squad on the bench, we could only name a 9th sub if they are an academy player

I didn’t understand it at all. As a free agent, he would’ve been very much in demand by championship clubs. Strange, though we will never know what was in his contract of course. Maybe he can leave for a relatively small fee?

Thank you, thought it was something like that. So leans towards us keeping Humphreys as part of the 25 man squad if Woolfenden goes.

Woolfenden on 17:17 - Jul 30 with 1814 views | Matt_Netherlands | Not new news, from what I’ve been told. Which would make sense as lots of people pointed out that he seemed “disconnected” from the rest of the squad during the lap of honour after the West Ham game. Sounds like it’s been brewing for a while. Wouldn’t blame him if he did want first team football tbh. Would imagine somewhere around £3-5m would be our asking price.

You don't sign greaves. Oshea and now kipre if you want lovely ball playing across the backline imo

Playing out from the back has been a key component of McKenna's since he arrived - even last year we tried it, albeit with far less success.

It was yes. I just don't see how someone can signed those cbs with thoughts of playing nice football across the backline.

Woolfenden on 18:08 - Jul 30 with 1412 views | ParisBlue | Always thought we look better as a team when Woolfenden is in the team, even on the occasions he was "rested" in the Championship season. He's the most comfortable on the ball, looks to go forward, and decent in the air. Get the feeling a lack of pace is what has pushed him out. For some reason I've always thought he looks like a Bristol City signing.
