For £10m. Sad to see him go but for that money it makes sense. Assume we have a replacement lined up

We definitely need a centre midfielder though.

Last time in the Championship, we got Travis in January, because we didn’t have anyone to cover for Morsy. Think the same applies at the moment, Cajuste and Taylor compete for the old Luongo role.

Assuming the Azon deal goes through, agree that CM is the area where most improvement could still be made. Taylor can produce occasional flashes of brilliance, but overall he is not the strongest player in that position, IMO.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

I'm very sad about this one. Great money and a good move for the player, I don't think he was treated overly well last year and this year the signs were showing that he, yet again, wasn't going to make up part of the first XI.

Broady is just a lovely player and someone who is very easy to root for. Incredibly gifted, goes about his business quietly and keeps himself to himself. Not loud and brash, just contributes with quality football, popping up with important goals and moments of magic.

Good luck Nathan and thank you for your contributions the last couple of years.

Wrexham are loaded and desperate to build a team which can survive in the Champ.

They are certainly likely to have to spend a bit more given how far they have come so quickly.

Yeah agreed!

I know a few here really like Broady (me included) but if we get anywhere near £10m, even the £7m originally reported, that's blooming good business.

In all honesty, i'd prefer we sold Clarke for £10m and kept Broadhead, but, clearly McKenna and the staff are seeing something with JC worth persisting with and we have to trust that.

Wish him all the best though, will be another player always welcomed warmly at Portman Road.

I’m sure the club see Akpom as an upgrade on Clarke.

We improve our starting eleven and have cash in the bank.

Smzodics can also play left so we have Jack Clarke, Philogene and Smzodics all for that role plus Omari (I believe he may have played left for U21s).

He wants to leave. Let's move on. Maybe this £10m means we can keep Leif and Omari and strengthen in CM.

Fair points. It’s not just about Clarke is it? I’m quite excited to see what Philogene can do (and Clarke played a lot better in pre-season when he shifted across and Philogene was on the left). Sammie could probably play that inside left role as well as anyone leaving Leif to do what he does best out wide. I sometimes forget how much flexibility we have.

100%. Arguably we need 2, depending on how involved Cameron is going to be. I think he deserves a crack and it looks like he’s not going out on loan. But if he is loaned, we’ll definitely need 2 more CMs.

Think we need four front line CMs, particularly given Jens' management requirements, plus either Humphreys or Barbrook for cups - scratch that - cup and potential breakthrough. I'd favour Barbrook given his U21 status.

So:
Matu
Jens
+1
+2 (possibly still Taylor, but I'd like to upgrade)
Barbrook

i think the emergence of barbrook as a u-21 option means we will carry 4 cms (azor/cajuste/taylor+1).

could still keep cam here as a utility option, depends on whether we think that'll serve his development better than a loan

Indeed. When £7m was first reported it was suggested that was in excess of the initial figure. Would guess it's pushed up but would still assume a lot is on appearances, promotion etc.

£10m - Ashton has played a blinder there if true! I like Broady, and it's another of our double promo squad going, and further breakup of 'the group' but that really is a fee too good to turn down.

Presumably we're seeing Akpom & Sammie as better options than him. It's scary to go out on a limb like we are, but got to trust them I guess.

Will be heartbreaking to see Broady go, especially to then watch him against us. Has produced some incredible moments for us, and such a key member to that special L1 > PL group.

Nevertheless, with 1 yr on his deal, unlikely to renew, at £10m, it is an offer we can't refuse.

I'd have Humphreys or Taylor as that fourth CM. If he's not trusted to be a back up now (though he has been the last 2 years, even in the Prem) then we may as well move him on. Personally think Humphreys is good enough to step up and be our second choice LCM if we move Taylor on.

Him going home to Wrexham has nothing to do with "the right thing" but 10 million other reasons.

It's a ridiculously good deal for us, anything over 3 million for a player like Broadhead in his last contracted year would be a decent return.

Soz barca. I meant doing the right thing in regards to letting him go over offering a new deal etc.

We probably want 10 players for those front four positions.

Hirst, Akpom, Clarke, Philogene, Szmodics, Chaplin, Ogbene, Burns, Hutchinson and AlHamadi

These are the ten at present, obviously will need a replacement/s for the last two if they go.

Hope we can keep Omari (wishful thinking) and get a number nine to challenge Hirst to replace AAH.

I mostly agree with this but think we may end up with only 9 across the front 4 positions due to limitation on squad size.

I see the squad as follows:
3 x GK: Palmer, Walton, Button
8 x Defenders: O'Shea, Woolfy, Greaves, Kipre, H. Clarke, Johnson, Young, Davis (Townsend de-registered: Baggott out on loan)
5 x Midfield: Cajuste, Matusiwa, Taylor, Humphries, +1 (Barbrook back to U21s)
9 x Forwards: Hirst, Akpom, Azon, J. Clarke, Philogene, Szmodics, Chaplin, Ogbene, Burns (Hutchinson & Al-Hamadi transfer out)

So, I could see perhaps only one more addition in CM. Of course we might look to swap a couple more out.

All morning I've been thinking what fantastic business £10m for Broady is (much as I love what he's done here) and then I just remembered that Irish forward, absolute carthorse, that the budgies sold to Rangers for something approaching £8m or £9m.

Getting value for players sold is something we clearly lag behind the budgies on, so maybe this £10m for Broady is just the norm?

One who can stay fit for the season and doesn't blow hot and cold which Broadhead was guilty of on occasion. As I have said elsewhere I will still be very sad to see him go as on his day he was a fantastic player.
