We’ve so many really good players but not one standout. It’s not a year where we’ve a Delap for example who you just knew from early doors was top drawer and a future England player.
Whereas now we’ve more players of a higher level but not one standout superstar.
Philogene arguably will be there and is our next Hutch. Azor IS 100% the next Kante.
But I’m going to say for me it’s Cajuste.

Really could have put those three in any order to be fair, hard to separate them. Davis has been back to his best the last few games and I can still see him going on to be a quality Prem player. Philogene is flying and has bags of ability, he's another who will ultimately settle in the top flight, imo. Matusiwa is getting better week by week and looks quality, reads the game brilliantly and has quality on the ball too. |  |

It is really tough. Leif hasn't hit the heights of 2 seasons ago yet but we know it's there. Philogene plays like it's a five-a-side. Egeli has so much promise and I'm looking forward to seeing him achieve that and no idea which position will be his. I love to watch Cajuste. I want to be raving about Akpom and Szmodics and I think it'll come as will Azon. I don't think I've been as expectant, and excited for a season with our whole squad. I want to see more of Young too. Oh and Nunez, and come to think of it, I think Burns coming on for his first 10 minutes will get the biggest cheer ever.

3 Matusiwa. Didn't think we could replace Morsy but he may be better.

Much like the promotion team, where the sum of the parts was greater than the individuals. We are not a team set up to serve an individual star, but an integrated machine - perhaps not fully functional yet - a combination in which all the elements are important. Even (maybe especially) those sitting on the bench.
Which makes it very difficult to identify our "best" player(s), or even the most important. Goalscorers tent to grab the limelight, but they wouldn't be getting the joy without passes from midfield, Hirst's hold-up, or Szmodics' harrying and runs. It all becomes a very marginal judgement.
If pushed, at the moment, I might give especial plaudits to:
1) Matusiwa, the heart of midfield
2) Davis, getting his old marauding energy back
3) Philogene, for seizing his chances - tho Clarke is not far behind in that. |  |

I'm clear on the top two, but you could have them in either order. Leif is more consistent but has probably reached his peak. Philogene goes in and out of games but has some ridiculous quality and could easily end up going for more than Hutch.
Third is harder. Probably Matusiwa now, but Cajuste could easily go there. I also rate O'Shea, although he needs to work on his distribution after Sunday!
Curve ball: Sindre. Not there yet, but could be huge fairly soon and eclipse both Hutch and Philogene. He'd probably top my player with the most potential list. |  |
