He was at least consistently poor...

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

Thought he was going to lose control of the game at one point as the number of and the voracity of the fouls he was letting go began to get higher and higher.

I don’t have video, but both TownTV commentators were adamant it was a clear penalty for us for a two handed push right over in the box, about the 24th minute.

“Voracity”? They weren’t eating each other were they?

Consistently inconsistent.... Which was very frustrating at times.
Let a few naughty tackles go... But blew up for silly nudges.
Although , I have noticed a few times, some of ours going down a bit too readily. Looking for free kicks in oppo' 3rd..
When they don't get given. That's when we can get caught out in transition against better sides.

Not seen it back but the tackle on Akpom that took him off looked a bit nasty at the time.

He was really poor , especially letting lots of obvious fouls go.

I’m amazed he didn’t give a free kick against Cajuste when he won the ball for our goal.

In slow motion on TV it really wasn’t too bad. There didn’t seem to be any malice in the tackle . He got the ball..

Awful, I was shocked he didn't give a foul on cajuste, he pretty much did the entire game for that sort of 'challenge'

The awful thing is a lot of the stuff he missed/ignored yesterday gets given with VAR which we were so desperate to get away from.

Although knowing our luck, the one on Akpom gets nothing because he got a toe on it, and Kipre gets sent off for the near identical one 10 minutes later. Then Clarke’s goal gets ruled out for a foul on the defender by Cajuste.

What a paradox!

I thought he didn't give a lot of fouls that other refs would during the game (Philogene in particular), so when Cajuste used his body to win the ball for the goal in a way other refs might give a free-kick I'm pleased he was consistent.

The biggest issue with refereeing these days is constantly giving soft fouls, simply because they 'look' like a foul and we've been brainwashed to think they're fouls.

Giving fewer free kicks and thus allowing the game to flow is not a bad thing. It's a good thing.

We should be telling players to get used to it. They'll soon learn they can't just fall over and expect a foul.

not sure if was a definite penalty, Jaden went down quite easily and didnt have control of the ball anymore, yeah we see them get given, we also see them not.

I didnt think the ref was terrible, weve had worse this season, and his approach was mostly consistent, only one or two times I thought how is that a free kick when worse tackles were allowed to play on.

and you know if we're going to say he missed free kicks, how about that one in the lead up to our goal. 9 out 10 refs would have given WBA a free kick for that, and then we end up possibly drawing the game.

He nutmegged the defender, and was trying to run around him to collect the ball back.

That is not, not having the ball under control imo

BY and large I think he was consistently favouring the defending team. So , for instance, a blatant shove in the back of of Taylor when we were attacking went unpunished, a few moments later a minor nudge by Szmodics on a defender was penalised.

Don't boil a kettle on a boat.

Noticeable that the only one who complained was the one that was "fouled".

I thought he wasn't the worst. He let too much go, but was consistent. And he didn't penalise Cajuste for the lead up to the goal. Many refs would have seen that as a push, but think it was two off-balance players falling to the ground.
I actually prefer being more tolerant of the physical stuff as it should hopefully minimise the cheating and keep the game flowing.
That Philogene nutmeg penalty appeal - no way a penalty. Philogene nutmegged him, went around the outside and showed no strength to stay on his feet when there was contact and he didn't even have the ball under control. I'm being kind - Philogene was looking for a penalty. For me, I've seen far worse refs and if he wanted to make it all about himself, the game would have been stop/ start and loads of bookings. But, yes, he let some naughty challenges go.

He did get the ball but he knew what he was doing with the follow through, studs up, on the top of Chuba's foot/ankle.

The issue around that Jaden ‘penalty’ and I think where a lot of frustrations come in with refereeing is that one weekend that will be seen as a foul and penalty, and the next weekend it won’t be.

I was close to the penalty incidenet and with a very good view. I shouted for it vigorously, but it clearly wasn't a penalty. Like you I thought he was at best just not stong enough and at worst looking for it.
