| Great time to play Hull 14:01 - Nov 24 with 2676 views | portmanking | Several key absentees, with McBurnie and Lundstram ruled out. Matt Crooks suspended too. We're facing weakened teams ATM, we *must* use our squad depth to take full advantage this week. | | | | |
| Great time to play Hull on 14:14 - Nov 24 with 2468 views | SomethingBlue | Yep. I'd have taken seven points from Wrexham and the three aways – being conscious that, whoever you are, there is inevitably at least one disappointment in a bruising run like that. Think that's still very much on, win two of these three and we're in a nice place. Important period when we need to capitalise on others' frailties as you say. | |

| Great time to play Hull on 14:47 - Nov 24 with 2351 views | davblue | win is needed tomorrow. I can rarely recall us beating Oxford at Oxford since i've moved up here 30 years ago. A league cup game in the mid nineties but that's all i can remember. There's probably more but it will be a tough game on Friday, they will turn the ball over and make it a difficult game. | | | |

Oh, and FWIW, I’ll think we’ll make it a hat-trick of 4-1 away wins. Hirst, Clarke x2 and a Greaves goal against his former club.

I would be happy with that, however (and I have no idea if this would work), I would like to see the 3 behind the striker being Clarke - Egeli - Philogene. I know Clarke hasn't worked on the right and that Egeli hasn't played centrally but every time he gets the ball in that area he looks more dangerous than out on the wing and Clarke at RW is still better than McAteer. Hull are so open that I think those 3 could do real damage. None of that will happen of course but nice to think about it. SB

Is Greaves coming back in because you expect it, his height, as an ex-Hull player, or some other reason? Kipre did well again didn't he? I am not sure I am keen on rotating the defence if they are all fit.

Or.... - They've won 2 of the last 5, we've won 3. - They've lost 2 of the last 5, we're unbeaten in 5 - They are a point ahead, we have a game in hand. - We have a full squad they have the absentees as above. Those are facts too. Stats are funny things but as supporters most chose to look for positives, that's kind of the point of it. Hope I'm right.

We've also won our last two away matches convincingly. That said, Hull is never an easy place to go, especially for an evening match. I hope they do miss the players they are without and we take full advantage.

Greaves done nothing wrong at Swansea, IIRC, so was no real reason to drop him on Saturday either.

I got the feeling that Kipre was left out presumably because he wasn't fully fit and then returned (having played all 3 previously). However, on reflection, I guess it is more likely McKenna is switching between them according to which he considers better suited to the opposition. It's OK if both build up an understanding and retain good match fitness.

Yes, it's horses for courses between Greaves and Kipre. I imagine Greaves comes back in tonight against his former club, with Kipre returning for Oxford who are one of the most direct teams in the league.

Egeli is improving on the right and looking better every game. Once he truly gets into his stride, I think he'll be immense so I think worth keeping him in the position. Same with Philogene and Clarke on left. I dont see the point in shifting other players from their best positions because Akpom and Smozdics aren't cutting it in the no 10 role. You then have the whole 3 not performing at their best. Bring Chappers from loan or go shopping in january.

Where has it been determined that RW is Egeli best position? I believe he's played centrally a lot in his career this far and in the interview last week he himself stated that he felt he would end up playing centrally. I agree he's improving every week but I also think he's looked most dangerous when he's picked up the ball centrally on the counter. I don't think it'll happen but I don't think it should be dismissed completely like you've done. Your solution is to wait 11 matches until January to resolve the issue, my idea is to try and resolve it now. SB [Post edited 25 Nov 13:45]

We could cancel Chappers loan at any time. Don't need to wait until January. I dont think your idea of moving players around who are currently performing well in their positions is a good one. Its more likely to give us three underperforming players instead of one.

Is it really dropping? McKenna has a habit of switching out one CB for another to deal with a certain type of striker.

Please provide a source for that claim. It's been widely reported including on Towns own statement about the loan that the recall is in the January transfer window. https://www.itfc.co.uk/news/2025/september/01/conor-chaplin-makes-pompey-loan-sw I think that's a simplistic way to look at it. Clarke may be worse on the right than the left but he might still be more productive than McAteer. It's not going to happen but hopefully I don't see you on here over the next 11 games complaining that it's not worked sticking to the status quo which is the only option you're presenting given your Chaplin plan isn't feasible. Also worth noting that Chaplin has no goals and assists this season I believe. We all love him but it might not be the silver bullet you've decided it is. SB

I was thinking exactly this earlier, Philogene - SWE - Clarke that would be some potent front 3. And if we're honest what have we got to lose, it's hardly like SS or Akpom are pulling up trees in that position.
