Presser by PhilTWTD 5 Dec 14:51Can't let this become a narrative. Players read stuff, there are players who have made three, four five appearances. If you're an ITFC player, need to get behind them. If there's a narrative other than that, that's detrimental to the players. We'll pick the right team for the next six games in December and team will pick up good results. Yep. Annoyed the fk out of me too. Once upon a time it was left backs we set upon as a fan base, now it seems our keeper will never be good enough, no matter how many we try.

Fans emotions are reactionary to what they see in front of them. Have to take the rough with the smooth in football, nobody complained about the endless merited plaudits over the best 2 years or so, everyone happy to receive the pat on the back when things are going well, and in that same manner you have to be able to shoulder a bit of criticism if performance levels are below standards previously set. As always though, there is a line, and any personal insults and attacks on players/staff cross that lines, as they would in any other walk of life.

Not sure he's blamed fans, and not sure it helps to insinuate that either because that breeds exactly what we are trying to avoid here. He's making what I think is a fair point that negativity breeds negativity, and that disliking squad rotation is one thing but pinning it on individuals during the game (McAteer anyone ... ) is quite another. The away crowd does surprise me right now. I could understand it with a home crowd, but these are (stereotypically, across football) the hardened, loyalist types; not usually the sarcastic, cynical type, who might be quicker to get on the players’ backs.

I wasn't at Blackburn so can't comment, but on the whole I think our away support has been superb. McKenna said as much himself in a recent interview. Judging off the back of the most recent game is probably as unfair as judging his team off it too, in fairness.

Oxford was really bad to be fair, well before the game unravelled – I was quite taken aback to be honest. QPR a few weeks previously was, by contrast, excellent. [Post edited 5 Dec 15:25]

Being fair, the Blackburn game went all the way down to general sale. There were a good number of not regular away fans.

I think if we are going off insinuations then he is equally making one here, but I was referring to the OP. Ultimately, if he keeps doing things badly, getting poor performances from better players he’s got to carry the can. Hes taken us from a well drilled machine, to an increasingly clunky underperforming mess of late. If you’re not going to blame him for that or acknowledge it, then it really doesn’t work to credit him for anything either. This is the first time he’s really had to prove himself without being an underdog. It’s up to him to overcome that.

I think we're not prone to quickly turning and becoming nasty but we are pretty quiet and prone to lots of grumbling and frustration, which can be just as unhelpful.

It's not a surprise though, we have people on here making stuff up daily and then stating it as fact just so they can stick the boot in. SB

That’s because we got to the dreamland of the Premiership and they want to see the big clubs again.

Yep. Ever since success returned we seem to have attracted a load of horrible entitled fans. Not supporters. Football crowds will vent frustration. But some of the stuff aimed at Walton, when we play out from the back (have these morons never watched a McKenna team?) or at McAteer and Hirst is utterly disgraceful. There's more performative outrage on social media than there was when we were watching Mick at the end! The 'my head is on Mars' after watching us draw to Wrexham/Watford/Blackburn etc comments. No it isn't. You've just watched a game in the championship. Presumably some of these lot think every season in the championship is 23/24 like. Get behind the team. I don't blame KM for being bloody irritated by it.

Let's not create a straw man here because I'm hardly beaming at the last few games. Anyhow – he's said in the same answer that he will carry the can, which is good because if things go wrong he certainly should. The only point is not to call McAteer, five or six games in, every name under the sun for 70 minutes because you (not *you*) don't agree with swapping him in. [Post edited 5 Dec 15:48]

In fairness, and for balance, there have been fans on the back of players almost before they kicked a ball. Some real prejudice. Much as the season started. That has consequences, and will create a knock on effect. So which came first, the chicken or the egg. We still also have some on here who claim what is written / said about players doesn't get to them. It does. Morsy alluded to this before. And yet the usual suspected continue.
