Have we struck a deal with Leeds?

I fear I’m the only person on here that isn’t convinced he would be a good fit for us…

I would be much happier with a loan.

Although if it takes a £15m signing to go up then so be it.

Truly impaired.

This. Probably going to be one of those players that falls in to the category of ‘too good for the Championship, not good enough for the Prem’.

6 month loan, no permanent option would be ideal.

If he can’t press I would imagine it’s a no from us, not seen enough of him to comment

The only Muff in Town.

Sounds like something we do need then

We dont press really so that's fine. Teams sit low so pace not needed. We are best when crossing to feet than air but need someone who can read the delivery and score goals with first time finishing.

You can compromise on some of those attributes but being able to compete in the air is a non-negotiable. More teams are playing a back three this year and we’ve seen how we’ve lacked threat in those games when Azon has lead the line.

If we want a proven Championship finisher with good box movement, I’d try and get Salech from Cardiff. All his goals are from close range but he wins his headers and works really nicely knitting together an attack made up of small technical players. Young and physical enough to potentially play higher than the Championship too.

I’d put Sam Surridge high up the list as well. If we can get either of them plus an experienced PL midfielder on loan I’d be happy, then anything else is a bonus.

Very much hope this isn’t true. Piroe is a top finisher but he can’t press, run fast or head the ball so completely unsuited to how we like to play. I’d like to think we’ve learnt from Akpom to look beyond a striker’s goal tally and focus more on how they fit into the system.

Haven't we drastically changed our style of play already?

We used to play with a right 10 (Chaplin/Omari) and a left 10 (Broadhead) supporting the lone striker (Hirst/Moore). Davis was an attacking wing back and we had Burns as a pacy winger on the right, supported by Harry Clarke who could overlap Burns in attack or slot in as a third centre back when defending as Burgess would often cover for Davis.

Now we have Jaden who is an out and out winger which nullifies Davis threat, Nunez, who plays more like an attacking midfielder than a right 10, Sindre/McAteer, neither whom are pacy wingers in the style of Burns or Ogbene, and Furlong who rarely overlaps like Clarke and tends to stop and pass back to O'Shea because he has no attacking instincts.

I'm pretty sure if we had a finisher like Piroe we would have turned the draws in which we dominated possession (Derby, Watford, Wrexham, Millwall) into wins.

Yes, very much so and I fully agree. We need someone now who can pick up the pieces and create something from nothing once Philogene/Clarke/Egeli have run into dead ends/or cut back, slowed us down and the opposition have got into their defensive shape. Piroe is someone far more suited to that than Hirsty.

If we end up with Sam Surridge leading the line, I’ll be gutted. There’s a reason he’s playing MLS in his prime.

So he’s definitely signing? Cool!

For £15M which is probably a bit steep. He had better score a hat trick in his first match.

In comparison to our last champ season i dont feel we do herbz.
As mentioned we were one of the best at pressing and high turnovers in the opponents half's in the year we got promoted. Thats not us this season and another reason why imo hirst hasn't looked the same either as alot of the play he was involved in was the quick turn over of play after we won the ball back High fed it to hirst who then played in others. Alot of the balls Hirst has had to try and deal with are zipped balls down the middle from oshea for him to grapple the cb for.

Im not alone in feeling our press has changed.

So yes I do watch ipswich.

I will edit to this tho when we discussed pressing earlier. That front three press has changed hence by thoughts above.

Its definitely a different shape. In 23 it was like a 3 v press.

Our midfield tho i feel are more involved this season hence azors high interception figures.

So maybe saying we DONT press is wrong. So apologies thats on me. It is more of how we press imo means we dont need a striker who can.

Hirst still does A LOT of pressing when he plays. Whether we're as effective at it is another matter but we do press and Hirst leads that press.

Yes, a one man press is not going to match the three man press in the middle we used to have with Harness/Broady, Hirst and Chaplin. A one man press is a forlorn cause really. Feel sorry for Hirst when he does press at speed as there is always an easy out ball for the guy he is pressing.

On the bench for Leeds today. That would suggest he is an injury to say the oft injured Calvert-Lewin away from starting. Doesn't really scream a done deal but never say never.

It would be intetesting to compare how much we win it back compared to then

I wouldn't be surprised if we win it back more now, partly because of Matusiwa
