Our very own Paolo Maldini.

I actually got very strong Herminator vibes last night. CB converted to LB and a few rangey marauding runs.

Really enjoyed that.

Suspect Leif comes back in given he has more of a goal threat but nice to know we have Greaves as an option there.

Absolutely immense last night.
Very difficult to choose a man of the match but Greaves would have been right up there.
He's actually a very good footballer technically, and certainly a more than capable stand-in left back.
I said after the game I don’t believe Davis would have done any better last night and that’s no dig at Leif, who is a terrific player.
But Greaves gave us a physical advantage over their right side and, defensively, was superb.
If Davis is still struggling with illness, I’d keep Greaves there against Oxford.

He is seriously too good ( like Clarke) not to be playing every week.

I think he will keep his place against Oxford. If Leif has this flu bug it is quite debilitating, and could do with a whole week of rest. Also Furlong may need a rest. He had a very physical battle last night.

It was a fantastic performance by Greaves last night and that’s a very good point regarding last nights performance having echoes of Hermann!

Dropping Davis seems unthinkable but defensively that is probably the most solid unit there is. Maybe certain games?

I’ve actually liked Greaves everytime he’s been out there.

Poll: Ok gut feeling then, promotion?

It's all part of a grand plan...

Leif has been inverting a lot when playing - almost as if he is being groomed to play centre mid

Greaves has proved that he can play effectively at LB (albeit without all this inverting nonsense)

So when Azor gets his next booking, LD comes into midfield

What could possibly go wrong?

Not sure if that’s tongue in cheek but I do think the fact we have three of our most talent players on the same wing is a bit of an issue sometimes.

It was a bit - and I dont even play football manager...

But a wise man once said about someone else playing out of position, it may not be his best position, but he may well be the best player we have for that position (while Azor takes some time off)

Of course the best solution is to get adequate backup for Azor, but that has proved to be a non-trivial challenge

Greaves reminded me of a prime Tyrone Mings at lb during the Mick days, his rangy athletic figure gave them something different to think about.

Defiantly with thinking about against a low block imo too

Furlong or egeli with a floated cross to the back post in comes greaves....

a niche perspective

The point was emphatically proved that Greaves is way better than Woofenden. Wasn't it great that Clarke played instead of Philogene and ended up MOTM whilst Egeli came off and Burns came on and scored.
Many times KM has been criticised about line ups and substitutions and maybe it was true that Philogene had a slight knock, but nobody could argue that it didn't turn out perfectly.
It went down really well for me along with a few pints of Guinness.

Never mind the floated cross, he twice put his head in harm's way trying to score a flying header. It was an immense performance and he really gives KM another option down that side.

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

How about converting Leif into the new Luongo and keeping Greaves on the left?

I seem to recall McKenna playing Leif there pre season the year we went up.

When we need a plan B against a team sitting deep and hard to play through, I'd be very ttempted to put Greaves up front, certainly for that last 20 mins, good touch, very good in the air, doesn't look quick but you'd be surprised...we have little options right now, get crosses into him, just like Fulham did to us at CC last season, thry did exactly this..

He was very good. He missed a couple of opportunities to whip in an early cross (one of which early on in the first half was an excellent position for us with 3 waiting in the box) but aside from that it was a superbly assured performance at both ends of the pitch. I’m not sure I’ve seen Leif play better this season.

I was thinking about this but the other way round, could Greaves be our fill in DM while Azor is out. he's a good passer of the ball, played very well in a back 3 not sure it would definitely work but might be an option.

Main thing for me is that it means we can give Davis a rest, we've flogged him silly the past few years. Means he can go all out for games without having to worry about the congested fixtures.

I always found it odd that when a Gregg Leigh was here we would regularly rest Davis for the final 10 minutes but last season we had Connor Townsend and we tried to squeeze every last second out of Leif, even when he was obviously knackered.

He played LB a couple of times for Hull as well - in my opinion he is a natural left back. The guy is addicted to going forward with the ball.

I do not understand why we were starting Davis and Greaves on the same side at the start of the season, it kept leaving our left side completely open to counter attacks and even offered more options for teams on the right side as a result.

I knew Greaves would impress people when I saw him start there.

Coventry away didn't really worry me as much after our home win against them, I am surprised they did very little against us, but our defense is FINALLY in order.
Imo, the Portsmouth away game is the real test of where we are as a team. We should be beating Oxford, and then we see where we are as a team.

I remember the Arsenal game when we played Greaves in with O'Shea and Woolfy. We were decently solid. He is better amongst a 4 with two other CBs. Thats his best use, LB or CB in a 5 or 4 with two other CBs.
