You would think so wouldn't you, don't all parties have to agree to terminate the loan early? Unless we make that worth Sassuolo's while I guess.
| "Bidding War for Muric" on 12:55 - Jan 6 with 2683 views | SWLondonBlue93 | Fair play to him. Some people have rewrriten history on Muric, he made the odd spectacular save but he did also top the stats for GK errors leading directly to a goal last season. But if he is thriving elsewhere, that has to be a good thing, undoubtedly there is talent there | | | |
| "Bidding War for Muric" on 13:06 - Jan 6 with 2500 views | SomethingBlue | Doesn't surprise me, he's a massive talent. Got off to a dodgy start here and probably wasn't the right character fit either, it happens. But did suffer too from not being Hladky, just as our current side are seemingly paying a price for not being the 2023-24 team. | |

He is but it was also right to move him on, I think both things are true. There's no coming back when numpties boo a player in a pre season friendly. Properly fecked me off that did.

Yeah, audible booing when he came on in the Charlton friendly at Colchester. Some of our 'supporters' are utter tools.

I think you've nailed it. Right attributes, but wrong personality. From everything I've heard, he did give off proper Sereni-esque vibes at the training ground. IF we bounce back this summer, I hope we look for a steady eddie keeper. A no-frills option with some decent PL or European top flight experience would be welcome.

There's a lot of rewriting of history when it comes to Muric. It's not like the fans wanted him to fail but when a keeper repeatedly more or less throws the ball in their own net as he did here then fans will understandably lose faith, especially when said keeper has previous for similar issues. Glad for him (and us) that it's working out in Serie A but he was terrible in his short time with us and him doing well in a different environment doesn't change that. That's not condoning knobheads booing him by the way, the minority that did that are clearly divs. But he gave fans plenty of reason to doubt his capability here. [Post edited 6 Jan 13:16]

It matters far more how many goals he let in, than how those goals went in. His stats in that regard were far better than our other keepers and nothing needs rewriting. If you have a striker who scores 30 goals in a season, you have to be a special kind of pessimist to concentrate on half a dozen shocking misses. That's how I see it with Muric. Juventus think he's good enough for them, and yet somehow we seem to be making a loss on the guy. You win some and lose some in the transfer market, but this feels self-inflicted.

He made a few mistakes in his time here but considering how exposed he was by our [at times comical] defending, he was unfairly blamed. I guess many need a sacrificial lamb, but his criticism was way over-the-top.

He was playing in a team that was going much better, aside from the Brighton away game where he was excellent I'm not sure you can attribute our better record solely to him. We were still full of early season pep and optimism and in touch with teams above us, and not entirely ravaged by injury, when Muric made most of his appearances for us. He contributed to us losing some of that pep and optimism by gifting goals and points to the opposition.

Not rewritten, he made many spectacular saves, was excellent commanding his area, claiming balls and at corners was a massive help in our defensive qualities on them - our side got worse without him in it he did however fk up a fair number of times too, that's not to be forgotten and can't be Palmer and walton have faired similar with fk ups imo, but have had 0 moans about either of them doing so. Muric should be our current no.1 but many fans wouldn't give him time, and he hated his time here.

Walton and Palmer make nowhere near as many mistakes leading to goals as Muric made. It's not even close. Muric played about half a season and gave away 5 goals directly from his mistakes, the most in the Prem last season. He gave two away in about 8 appearances for Burnley the season before. I'm not sure he made the number of spectacular saves you suggest, aside from Brighton away where he was undeniably excellent. He was a decent shotsopper generally but occasionally let one (or two) in that any half decent keeper should deal with and he was dodgy in possession. He did generally command his area well but that isn't enough to gloss over his many deficiencies.

It was only right to move him on as KM's hand was forced by the fans. Which shouldn't have happened or be seen as acceptable.

Walton is playing a lower level, a different style of play and still passes it to opponents at times, he's also been lobbed from 70 yards. Palmer, weekly gave the ball away, and he never seemed to actually save a shot either, it seemed every shot was a goal. BTW im not saying muric was the be and all and end all, but he was and is still better than the two we have played since we dropped then let him leave. Muric with this style and this better defensive line and this better team dynamic would have been a beast this season imo.

The talk a couple of months back that Sassuolo were looking to try and turn the deal permanent in January is interesting. If they've got a watertight right/obligation to buy at the end of the season, I can't quite see why they'd want to spend that money any earlier than they'd have to.

Either of these could be true - was Muric one of the reasons we were doing better before Xmas, or was it that the team enabled better stats for the 'keeper. We'll now never know, but without a doubt Muric is better in most respects than either Palmer or Walton, and had we been able to work with him longer, to reduce his weaknesses, we could have ended up with a top 'keeper. Unfortunately that boat has sailed, and when we do return to the PL, we'll need to find a new 'keeper, and that's going to require tens of millions to do.
