Again, I think that's misconstruing what was meant. The point I was making was that it wasn't an official invite, they didn't stage an event or hold any meetings with the club hierachy. Nothing beyond that.

I’m not disputing that there wasn’t an official invite, I’m disputing that there wasn’t official involvement and I think it’s bad form to communicate that on behalf of the club when it clearly isn’t true.

Giving him such a warm and welcoming reception, and allowing him and his media team so much time and space to conduct a photoshoot and promotional video for him and his associates, could not reasonably have been conceived as occurring without official involvement.

You are currently the only media outlet reporting on behalf of the club, including the club itself, so I have nowhere else to push back on the disingenuous rhetoric that the club did not have a hand in facilitating this.

Doesn't look like it to me either, I don't see any of the obvious signs such as flickering of background objects to suggest it is.

That's not to say it isn't, it's a compressed video which makes it hard to tell, but it doesn't look like it at a glance.

I think this video says more to me that it's AI, due to the fact that Farage appears out of nowhere and hovers half way through!

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Then would you allow somebody far more eloquent than I to write something down and put it on the news section, if you believe it is a fair representation of the majority view.?

With the international break and very little ITFC news this will continue to dominate the board. I've expressed my feeling both on here and social media so I don't see much point to me adding anything else to these threads.

It may return the board to some normality with a united* voice being heard.

*I appreciate that there are some Reform voters/supporter on the board. And thy have every right to cast their vote however they may chose.

Opinion isn't news

That's a dangerous route to take. See nothing wrong in people writing articles about this 'event' if allowed.

Lads I think a significant number of you have lost your marbles. The idea that Phil, the guy many of us know very well over the years, is obliquely supporting Reform because of what he has reported and not editorialised is completely deranged. Surely people don’t need something like this made black and white for them?

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

I think im reading the poll correctly but isn't it just 4 people who have voted that TWTD support reform

the more balanced thoughts are between supporting the club or genuinly believing the club didn't know about it

Agreed, Phil has made his personal views clear in this thread.

I perhaps disagree with the wording of the headline. I would suggest this could have been reported as "Town deny official involvement in Farage tour" the headline as written states this as fact, when it appears that a senior member of club staff welcomed him to PR and he's clearly been permitted access way beyond what is usual.

I can think all of this without believing Phil to be a fascist.

That's just semantics on what 'official involvement' refers to. You know the point that I was making, that it wasn't an official visit to the club, not an invite, no meeting with club dignatories etc. That there would have been staff helping to facilitate the tour once it was decided it would happen, and evidently allowing the filming etc, isn't in question.

By all means write something for the Blogs section, that's what it's there for. The comments section on the news stories also gives a flavour of the wider view.

I don’t think that Phil is supporting Reform (as you say that isn’t in his character) but in reporting as he is there is a certain suspension of disbelief that has filled the vacuum from the club - I.e. they knew nothing about this, Reform have pulled a fast one, whatever else.

The TWTD news story is now the lightning rod for criticism and I don’t think Phil needed to put himself in that position because the club have effectively hung him out to dry.

They certainly shouldn't have been allowed to do any of that if they were keen to keep the noise from it down, although I would guess other corporate groups similarly bring media teams. However, the point remains the same, there was no official invite, it wasn't an official visit to the club in the sense that other dignitories have been invited to the club and there were no meetings with Mark Ashton etc.

I'm with you Phil. But How on earth have Reform got away with this stunt? I'm stunned to be honest! They've pulled our knickers down and posted them on a flagpole. It's incredibly, incredibly poor by the club and they need to get something out quickly to counter the bad publicity this is bringing.

I can't speak for RKD, but I personally don't think Phil is acting in bad faith. However the headline of his article is demonstrably incorrect. Farage was greeted by the club's communications director. What is that if not official involvement? It would not have happened were you or I to have booked a stadium tour.

All I've done is outline what happened and how as I understand it. No doubt they made a big error in allowing the tour to go ahead once they knew who was involved, and allowed the access they did within it, and really should have put something out publicly this morning.

I too feel like my point is falling on deaf ears.

What I think happened is that ReformUK made a booking off their own backs, and the club not only accepted the booking, but gave him and his team favourable treatment that other paying customers, including lifelong fans of the club, were explicitly told they couldn’t do.

I think a senior member of the Ipswich Town Football Club staff welcomed Farage and his team, and allowed and permitted ReformUK to use the club’s stadium, brand and logo as marketing to promote and endorse their party and policies.

The extensive access, special treatment, and silence from the club makes it hard for me to fathom that there was no official involvement from the club.

I would define all of the below as official involvement:
- Accepted a booking in full knowledge that it was for ReformUK and Nigel Farage
- Liaised with ReformUK regarding security measures and facilitation
- Had a senior member of the club personally greet him
- Hosted the booking with the knowledge that ReformUK were using this to promote their party
- Gave ReformUK privileges that supporters were prohibited from

That’s why I so ardently reject the notion that the club didn’t have official involvement, and I don’t think it’s a debate on semantics.
