BBC: Farage invited to Ipswich Town, says club associate 15:30 - Mar 27 with 5615 viewsSitfcB

It was James Pearce via LinkedIn.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/art

‘The BBC has approached the Blues with a series of questions about the visit, including about who arranged it and whether the club knew Farage would be using its branding to promote the party.

It has declined to comment.’

My understanding is that that's not quite correct. The contact from James Pearce wasn't an invite to the club as implied, but regarding Ashton and Farage meeting up privately elsewhere. How it then turned into the circus it did, I'm not quite sure, although am guessing that may have been the catalyst for Reform feeling they were welcome and making contact.

Circus is indeed the word.

And sorry your beautiful forum has been hijacked somewhat by the story!

What have you got for tea tonight anyway?

Don’t worry. According to his LinkedIn bio “James set up his communications agency in 2013, providing elite media training for high profile people who are facing media scrutiny”. James, you’ve come to the right place.

How are we still not getting a true account of events 4 days later. Can someone at the club just come out with the truth and factually state what happened.

The truth always comes out anyway so whats the point in allowing rumour and speculation and further dividing the fanbase.

So he admits he reached out to Reform to request that they meet with Ashton, but also claims that Ashton was unaware of the request at the time?

Chinny f***ing reckon.

I don't think that is as unlikely as it might appear. Part of his job is to put club people together with those that he would feel might be beneficial to them to know and wouldn't necessarily liaise before requesting a meeting. Either way, I think looking to engage with Reform in any manner was a mistake for a variety of reasons, regardless of how the matter ultimately ended up.

I think they are in the process of putting something together to move things on and start to build bridges.

Far be it from me to question you as you will obviously have far superior knowledge of things than me - but that sounds absolutely fanciful given what we know about Ashton.

It's going to be a video "apology" interview with Ashton isn't it?

I really have to question this, given all we know about Mark Ashton and how much of a control freak he is, to suggest someone with limited involvement in the club just happened to suggest a meeting between the clubs CEO and the leader of a controversial political party is fanciful at best.

...a pre-recorded interview where the same person is writing the questions as answering them.

It could be the most "Brentesque" moment of his entire tenure.

Looking forward to it.

If you could pop them over a link to the many polls suggesting he should leave that would be lovely!

Appreciate your coverage on everything as ever and I hope this reaches a conclusion soon so you can move on from it too.

If it was a one-off, I'd agree with you, but it won't be the only similar 'feeler' having been put out in that manner. James isn't someone with that limited involvement.

Of course, whether there was an invite in the first place is just detail. We know MA met with NF during the visit and the club told a different story.

How do you feel about being lied to Phil? I'm not saying it has in my mind, but you've dedicated years to TWTD being a trusted resource for ITFC news, as has EADT, and you could argue that's been compromised by what you were initially told and subsequently (and understandably with the lies you were fed at the time) doubled down on in RKD's thread.
