Fair point (and others thanks), he does swerve mentioning Farage and Reform specifically. He probably is hurt that he’s pissed off the fans, I believe that bit. But I see your point. (I’ve only read Phil’s report, not watched the vid yet) [Post edited 27 Mar 21:31]

Was thinking of the similarities earlier. 1. An early genuine apology and he could have moved on. 2. The denials that just insult your intelligence. 3. The apology that is nothing more than "sorry I got caught" 4. His thinking he was above normal norms of behaviour. 5. The small band of apologists publicly making themselves look utterly ridiculous 6. The fast downfall as people finally had enough And most relevant, bluster and bullsht will only get you so far when there's no substance underneath it.

How foolish we were to imagine that having Reform parade around the stadium with the CEO's approval might embolden right wingers to think they own the place. Don't know what we were worried about. And how well his message of unity and healing wounds has landed amongst his supporters!

I feel sad for our future that there are so many people who aren't willing to stand up for themselves and would rather roll over and have their bellies tickled by those with a bit of power.

Yep. Red mist is going to come down if we hear that moronic contingent who have appeared on away trips since success came back launch into 'Dara at the back Farage in attack' This is a disgrace. Ashton out. He's made it worse again with this latest statement.

"I shouldn't have let Reform (or any party) have the run of the place to make party campaign videos, that was wrong and clearly divisive, I apologise for doing it. It won't happen again. I will be asking them to remove our badge (your badge) from their publicity materials and social media." That would do me. [Post edited 27 Mar 22:14]

Oh look, another poster spouting stuff about ‘lefties’ and ‘snowflakes’ because they aren’t clever enough to come up with real arguments. If anything has come out of this it’s how stupid some people are.

Did he? Ashton hasn’t admitted any error, but blamed the club for a misjudgment. Sounds a lot like shirking responsibility to me

So if someone intentionally broke your leg with a hammer, then said he didn't have a hammer, then finally said 'You're feeling very hurt, I'm sorry you're feeling this way' would you class that as a sincere and meaningful apology? [Post edited 27 Mar 22:21]

I personally think that we need to start reading words and understanding them. There is no apology there for the things that needed to be apologised for (in a totally apolitical way)

And when he comes out and speaks like it’s he who built the training ground, or it’s he who signed a certain player, people will critcise him for speaking about a me me attitude. He can’t win. The mistake made was on him and the club as that’s the way the media will portray it which is important. His statement was correct. He’s apologising on behalf of himself and to a wider audience the club.
