Sadly, KMc needs to be pressed on Farage 11:03 - Apr 1 with 2736 viewsmaxslaro

As of Wednesday morning, it doesn't look like Ashton is going to say anything else on the Farage fiasco, based on the KOA podcast

Therefore, the only other Ipswich Town figure that media can ask is McKenna.

While KMc's role is obviously solely to coach the team, local and national media have to take this chance to press KMc on what happened, how, why, etc

Things I want to know: How players feel about their shirts being moved for Farage, what KMc knew about the situation, what MA has said to KMc, how sponsors feel.

KMc is likely to avoid these questions and give diplomatic answers, but media needs to press him and keep asking.

It's unpleasent, but MA has left us, as supporters and media, with few other options to get information about this horrid situation.

Of course, MA could himself come out and face the music, but he seems too cowardly...

I am firmly in the camp of believing Ashton needs to immediately get out of our sight because of this whole episode, but I don’t think it’s really appropriate for McKenna to be asked to field any questions about it when the ‘club’ are too cowardly to do so.

At most, I suppose somebody could ask if recent events / noise had impacted preparation or whatever, to which I can already hear Kieran’s response in my head. But I think the comms team will most likely be instructing all press that they won’t be answering any questions about it ahead of any presser.

Get away out of that

I would agree, I would be extremely disappointed in any journo, particularly local ones who even pose any question to him on this.

Not his battle etc.

Stuart Watson has already said he will question him, mainly on the footballing side of things.

He is out of our sight, isn't that one of the issues?

agreed. MA has left us in a position where KMc needs to take the flack

McKenna should certainly not be given any 'flak'. That would be equally disrespectful.

Being asked the questions cannot, imo, be avoided - but they won't get the press very far, because it's not Kieran's remit to handle such matters.

Not sure journos, especially those who were lied to, will let it go until the clubs mistruths comment is explained.

They weren't lied to by Kieran.

I'm sure they'll ask him a question or two and KM will say entirely focused on upcoming fixtures but pushing him into a corner wont help the cause at all.

He wouldn’t need to if Ashton had “Ran Towards Adversity” instead of lied, hidden behind weak club statements and made an apology focussed on saying sorry that people felt upset, rather than actually addressing the issues. Instead he’s been a coward and left a vacuum that unfortunately KM will undoubtably have to fill, at least to some extent, even if the question is just “how has this affected the team”, which would seem a reasonable question from local journos or otherwise.

Ashton has been utterly pathetic. 9 days on and he's popped up once for a rehearsed, in house, 3 minute, non apology. Call that leadership?! I don't think so.

what nonsense. By trying to force McK out into the open, you are forcing his hand into possibly resigning?

Give it a rest. Go outside, smell some flowers, pet a dog.

I love ITFC, but a large number of the fans are bellends

Crazy!

McKenna is too sensible to speak on this topic for fear of saying something that could be misinterpreted by some as incriminating in any way.

Leave him alone to focus on what he’s paid to do.

Some people on here just want blood and they don’t care who they get it from.

Indeed, nobody should be pressed onto anybody in this day and age....

I’ve got visions of Phil giving him a wedgie until he spills the beans. It’d liven up proceedings if nothing else.

I assume Kieran would say he’s not going to be drawn into it and his focus is entirely on getting the team ready, as he should be. It would be pointless.

We really, really, don't need to press McKenna on this at all.

Bloody hell.

Ashton still needs to do a fooking lot more than his half arsed apology, but McKenna needs to be able to get on with his job.

I get that I do, fans have been lied to, a lot of stakeholders, and I've said previously, Ashton has a big task to try and rebuild that bridge, because it was a terrible look from the club.

Having said that, Ashton has issued his apology, whether you like the choice of words or not, it was an apology, and it feels like it is now been dragged on a little longer than it needs to for me.

Sorry but the OP has completely lost the plot! Why on earth should McKenna have to answer this at his football press conference. He is there to talk about the game, team, opponents and that's it.

No he doesn’t. KM needs to focus on the huge game. Massive game for the club. No distractions. Leave the politics to others.

Downvoted without even reading. I don't do that often, if ever, but the title alone would indicate that it's going to be completely unproductive nonsense.

Why does the media ‘need to press him and keep asking’? Give me one good reason.

It’s got nothing whatever to do with the manager, players or staff any more than it’s got anything to do with the supporters. The manager and players should be left alone to do their jobs.

If I was McKenna I’d start by telling the media that the press conference is about the training, team and the game. Nothing else. No questions will be answered on what happened 10 days ago and the first time anyone asks one, that’s the press conference over.

My view is that it is for the owners and CEO to deal with what happened internally and externally with stakeholders and media, nobody else.

I think Mckenna being asked about it may actually be a good thing.

I trust him to give a measured and thoughtful answer that actually promotes unity in the fans which Ashtons pathetic "sorry if you are offended" speech didn't.

I think he may have more to say about it than people think and I think it will actually help.

No he doesn't. He will most definitely hold his own private views which he's very wisely kept to himself thus far. He's the manager of a football team that has a vitally important football match to play in 5 days time. I think you could say he has other things on his mind at this moment. If he feels the time is ever right to say anything, I'm sure he will. This isn't that time.

I disagree. He shouldn't be.

However, we all know it will come up unless Ashton has gone before it. And McKenna is clever enough to know the questions will come and will have prepared his answers for them.

It will probably be quite interesting how he plays it because I would be pretty sure he is fairly angry at what Ashton has done. Will he let that show or simply bat it away?

Just leaking Stuart Watson's first question at the presser..."Morning Kieran...obviously the big talking point this week has been Nigel Farage's visit to Portman Road. What were the feelings of the squad to him being filmed in the dressing room with shirts bearing his name, and your personal reaction to him stating that your job is at risk if we fail to win promotion this season?"
