“Disgusting song” - He sang a chant calling someone an arsehole and making mash potata.

Get a grip, he’s barely a war criminal.

So if someone isn’t responsible for countless deaths in a war zone, all is good?

They havent charged him.... as much as you would love nothing else.

And people question my intelligence

Sorry, they're investigating him. I imagine it will lead to him being charged though as is usually the case when the FA decides to investigate these kinds of things.

Knowing how Anglia tv works with their biases it was probably them reporting it. Not that I condone it.
But lets face it Delia is someone who has made a fortune out of being a moderately decent cook.
She wanted to join Town and was rejected so she changed allegiance.
She complained about a beer can landing on the bonnet of her car when she foolishly had it driven through crowds at a local Derby and wanted an apology.
Now I'm not saying you shouldn't be able to drive anywhere. But come on, we all know it's stupidity to go into certain areas anywhere in the world.

Your second paragraph is rather reflective of what is wrong in this country - the inability to see when something is wrong just because it’s the other side.

Just because some feel that verbally abusing an 84 year old woman is a bit odd it does not mean that they are backing a Norwich based media organisation.

I’m all for singing anti-Norwich songs but those Delia ones are awful.

And like it or not, it’s one thing for an ordinary fan to sing those songs but for a CEO or captain to sing them - they are required to have more class and responsibility about them.

I hate this line "verbally abusing an 84 year old woman". It's an exaggeration to make it seem as worse as possible. In the context of a football song (and on the terraces or an open top bus parade) it's a bit of pantomime aimed at a rival team. It's not literally abusing someone. And it's certainly not going up to an 84 year old woman and abusing her.

I can understand why people don't like the song, I'm not overly keen myself. And it's not really becoming of a CEO to sing it. But let's not make it out to be more than it is.

Exactly this. Football is an emotional industry. Saturday was an emotional day.

Really and truly, people are just looking for one final stick to beat Ashton with.

If only there was a chairman in place who could have spoken to him before he did the act.

Quite frankly. The chairman/ceo imo shouldn't even have been at Isaacs. But he does love to make sure hes involved.

You may think its lovely how involved he was. But imo for the level he is. He should have been celebrating sensibly with other higher level leaders of the club leaving the mansger and players to celebrate.

What's his defence to a charge of bringing the game into disrepute?

His defence will be...

"What is the charge? Enjoying a beer? A succulent lager beer".

It's the FA that's charged him, I don't think the local newspaper in Norfolk has that power. And the footage was circulating online before they picked the story up. Sadly it's another error of judgement from a CEO/Chairman/Overlord who could do with being moved on.

What was he doing front and centre of the celebrations anyway? Utter lack of class regardless of the tasteless song he chose to join in with. He's such a weasel.

So you would move on arguably our best chairman in over 2 decades after over seeing one of the most successful periods in our history in recent times. Over what? Him engaging with politicians to ultimately help the football club or perhaps for engaging with the fans like one of us? Some people will just never be happy.
[Post edited 8 May 10:49]

"engaging with politicians to ultimately help the football club" - wow, that's quite the spin on him letting - indeed assisting - Farage and Reform to use the club for propaganda and then lying about it and taking the fans for mugs. He's an egomaniac and has poor judgement. We are where we are because we have a generational talent as manager, not because of a David Brent wannabe.

I think it's something Ashton should have avoided, given his position as senior representative of the club.

But, on the other hand, I can see him being caught up in the moment, maybe having had a beer or two.

Totally this.

I may be dreaming this but wasnt the boot on the other foot a few years back? I seem to remember Delia after one too many sherries joining in a song calling us scum? Two wrongs don’t make a right but alcohol does strange things to people!

I understand your viewpoint and you might be right on that one. It might well be pantomime aimed at a rival team but is the Fashanu song pantomime as well? Not wishing to start an argument just would like to know where you think pantomime ends and where chants start to be offensive.

I stand on the rest of what I wrote though.

Thing is. Whether he likes it or not. There will be players who think about the whole picture of a club before joining it. They will have their own principles.

We are going shopping and players will be aware that weve got a ceo/chairman who welcomed and covered up the reform stuff. And then this too.

Its all great having KM and a new training ground.. but weve got a very different ceo/chairman to other clubs. Some will love that. Some wont.

Difficult to argue as it was totally unprofessional for a ceo/chairman

Are you for real? We're talking about Delia making mashed potato and "hating" her. Fashanu was about his sexuality and suicide. I can assure you there's a very distinct line between the two.

As expected, the thread has now descended into farce with the "Ashton Out" brigade. Fortunately, they are only a microcosm of the wider view.

And BTW, I still think Ashton's position should be under scrutiny for the Farage saga. But this Delia sh*t is laughable.

I think there are a few points getting missed here. One is the fact that the meeting was booked without the owners being aware of it and the second being that they then tried to outright lie to the supporters about it. He has done some excellent things for Town but that does leave you in a position where you wonder what is coming next.

In isolation, the Isaac's incident probably gets brushed off but it wasn't the most sensible of moves from someone already under the spotlight. I was hoping that the Farage business might have knocked him down a peg or two but this doesn't really give that impression.

Quite distinctly different, aren't they.

There are other Delia chants that cross comparable lines, though. Thankfully not the one in question.

Agree with all of that, albeit I think it is nuts that the FA are investigating what was really just Ashton being a drunk tool.

No, the Fashanu song is homophobia. Which is a bit different to calling someone an arsehole and slagging off their solanum tuberosum expertise.

So anything that happens is ok because 5 years ago he alongside chairman o leary and other people Involved decided to take a risk on a guy who hadnt managed a senior game..

Of course we are grateful they all worked together and it worked out well.

Doesn't mean however nothing else matters.
