I wonder whether that particular intern only did it three times?

You would think phone records from the manager, all the coaching and analysts have not been requested under freedom of information based on what has been found to see if there is further evidence. EFL may not have the time and think there is a line drawn under it but you may think there could be other legal challenges to come on this one.

Pretty certain that freedom of information doesn't apply to private companies.

The club has released another statement, which still seems to be 'sorry but not sorry', and implying they weren't give a fair hearing, even though everything they were accused of is admitted. This from X also suggests more to come - I'm inclined to think there is further potential sanctions incoming from the FA, and they're desperately trying to reduce this.

May be classless but is also a very legally worded response to acknowledge the release today without admitting any further liability. Club are being very wary of admitting and apologising for things which could open themselves up for legal issues internally - I am wondering whether the interns may take legal action for the positions they were put into etc.

Maybe wasn't 100% sure and as no a criminal case doubt a warrant can be requested to confiscate other electronic items such as mobiles and laptops. I wonder how they got these other messages unless the intern cam forward and gave them the WA chat details | | | | Login to get fewer ads

But it's not cheating, they gained no sporting advantage knowing what was very likely to be our starting XI. And of course TE didn't change his team at all as he already knew how we would play given KMc is so consistent playing the same XI on a weeknight after a weekend game.

It is absolutely cheating though. EFL Rule 127: "Without prejudice to the requirements of Regulation 3.4 (that each Club shall behave towards each other Club with the utmost good faith), no Club shall directly or indirectly observe (or attempt to observe) another Club’s training session in the period of 72 hours prior to any match scheduled to be played between those respective Clubs." It's black and white, they definitely observed (both directly with a member of staff and indirectly via CCTV supplied by Eastleigh). That means they broke rule 127 and cheated. This is an accepted fact and acknowledged by Southampton.

Honestly, the way they've handled themselves this whole time has been pretty despicable. Just a matter of time until Eckhart gets banned, you'd imagine. Some of the stuff that's come out today has been pretty calculated.

The Commission requested the following: "38. Having served the charges, on 10 May 2026, the EFL made a further request for specific disclosure from the Club asking for (e.g.) the mobile devices of all members of the Club’s analysis team and Mr Eckert for forensic analysis; all relevant emails, messages and telephone calls between members of the analysis team; and relevant bank/credit card statements for the Junior Analyst Intern and the Club." Although from this it's not clear whether they were handed over: "On 12 May 2026, SPB responded on behalf of the Club, apologising for inaccuracies on the response of 8 May; and confirming that (i) the visit to the Middlesbrough training ground was carried out at the request of Mr Eckert, (ii) prior to deleting them, The Junior Analyst Intern transmitted three videos to Analyst 1 at the Club, and (iii) Analyst 1 had explained to Mr Eckert via WhatsApp what he discerned from the videos. The videos and some WhatsApp messages were attached. The letter also disclosed that, in the course of the investigations, the Oxford and Ipswich Incidents had come to light."

I went on the Saints forum expecting fury at those at the club, as there'a no defence for their actions. Yet apparently there is. Baffling.

| More from Spygate on 18:53 - Jun 1 with 1475 views | Churchman | This is disgusting. I’d relegate them to Div 2 for this and fine them the equivalent of their final year of parachute money while slapping a transfer embargo. They cheated, bullied and forced staff into actions they weren’t happy about, tried to cover it up and obviously lied about the number of times they tried this. It didn’t affect our season. But it might have done. People who think they gained no advantage? Why did they do it then? Why did matey boy hide in the golf club sht house? They knew, he knew. They didn’t care. They have no remorse - they are just playing victim. | | | |

Had a look at their forum. Blimey, playing the victim hardly covers it. Saying punishment is disproportionate They cheated in the lead up to the play off match, got caught, admitted it (eventually), got thrown out of competition. Seems fair enough They then got found out that they’d done the same thing before two other matches, admitted it (but said the cheating didn’t help them), got docked two points for next season as punishment. Again, seems fair enough. Lots of attempts at deflection too Everybody does it What about the time wasting and cheating in every match? It’s a stupid rule anyway What about Man City and Chelsea? …and on and on. Bit pathetic really. Ho hum

I thought that Eckhart tried to throw them under the bus by trying to suggest that they had sent the video off their own bat when the evidence from the analysts was rather different

Whether they gained a sporting advantage or not is neither here nor there. They were attempting to, and that's cheating.

Classless indeed. "What is harder to accept is that similar scrutiny does not appear to have been applied to the composition of the disciplinary panel itself, given the apparent historic and indirect connections of two panel members to Middlesbrough. While those connections do not by themselves prove bias, they plainly raise legitimate questions about consistency, perception and the standards of independence expected in proceedings of this magnitude."

I visited their forum a few times whilst this unfolded. It’s car crash TV - as you say, so many on that forum are using anything to justify what the club did, and how they are hard done by. There’s the odd voice of sanity, but very few. It’s also now 247 pages with 1.2 million views in 3 weeks!!!
