Think this is spot on but it depends who goes out, it may need to be more. From last seasons group, either of the players on the left may go, McAteer, Taylor, maybe Mehmeti (not sure he's good enough for the prem), Hirst, Egeli loan? Are we definitely keeping Chuba? Lots of players across that front line may need to be replaced. | | | |

Unfortunately, my current expectations are that we get relegated with a similar points total to the last time we were in the prem, maybe a slightly higher total unless we significantly strengthen across the squad. Don't get me wrong some of the business we've done I'm happy with, just feel we need more whether we get it, I doubt it. | | | |

The answer is 42 
But seriously, a lot! I wrote this before we’d sold any players, which would push what is possibly even higher. We won’t get close to spending what the new rules would allow (which are highly beneficial to us, as we’ve kept our wage bill very reasonable)
This is why I think we’ll spend £175-200M. Statement signings still to come.

My quick calculation, based on 24/25 accounts for when we were last in the PL.
Revenue £155M
Total wage bill £77M
Player costs amortised £30M
(estimated to be £27M now, due to Delap and Hutchinson leaving, and accounting for new signings)
Estimated Revenue for 26/27 £180M
At 85% SCR, that gives us £153M to play around with
(There are 'safe' ways to exceed this but reduce future flexibility, so will ignore that)
Remove costs excluding player amortisation (£77M-£27M = £50M) leaves £103M
The signings would of course have to be paid - so let's assume 8 players at £50k/week, so £21M, reducing the headroom to £82M
Signings of players over 4 year contracts would allow £328M, or £410M for 5 years (contracts would of course vary) after amortisation
Now, we would not IMO want to go anywhere near 85% SCR ratio - we were 49% last year, but I don't see SCR being the limiting factor for us - it would be other fiscal responsibility that determines what we're prepared to put into player signing.
This is a quick calculation (so ignore positives such as players leaving), but I think it's about right.

Yep. I had 7 in my head as well and that is to be competitive frankly. No matter what good work we have done so far and what we may still do, other clubs are just so far ahead and that isn't our fault but just how it is. Fulham made two cracking signings today and they are one of the clubs we are hoping will get sucked in.
This whole spending gazillions to give yourself a shot is a depressing far cry from what promotion used to feel like when I watched Lyall's men. |  |

Think that's pretty much spot on. Though I had a thought that occurred earlier today. Given our usual seemingly trials and tribulations in any transfer window including this one thus far, of securing a proper no 1 striker. I wonder if G O'N would or even is considering, going with a false 9 ? Oh I would add a wide left/left winger to that list, especially if JP goes, and even maybe if he doesn't as neither he or JC ( as much as I'm a fan of his ) have yet to prove they can fully cut it in the PL. |  | | |
