Undergoing a medical at Leicester apparently. If true, strange he signed a new deal, as surely we aren’t getting much of a fee?

Which is a bit of a concern.

they might of been very good when we were in league 1 and championship promotion season, but when they played in prem league all were woeful.

wes couldnt beat his man, then got injured
morsey couldnt keep up
chappers looked lost

hence why they were played as little and almost fazed out in that season. wes and chappers exceptional league 1 players and good/steady championship players at the time

Love what they did for the club, but not legends in my view.

Legend status should be reserved for the very best. Crawford, Beattie, Wark, Mariner, Robson, Burley etc.

Can I suggest "Modern Legends"?

They may not have had the top level success of the team of the late 70's/early 80's, but before that team came together I was convinced that we were more likely to be relegated to League 2 than promoted to the Championship, let alone the prem. Gave Town fans the best couple of years in over 20 years.

Where do we place players like Magilton, Holland and Stewart?

I also nominate H. Clarke, Luongo and Sarmiento for "cult hero" status.

S'funny, yesterday Burns was well worth his place in the squad when it was McAteer rumoured to leave, now this "news" has been announced, the opinion is that he's not quite up to it. What happened overnight?

I don't think either are Premier League quality but in McAteer's case he's considerably younger and on a long contract, we have to have half an eye on next summer. If Burns is unlikely to play much this season and even less likely to be around beyond that, then there's really little point keeping him.

I wouldn't be massively surprised if Burns, Ogbene, Philogene, McAteer, Al-Hamadi, Hirst and Mehmeti all left from our current attacking options, but it would depend on us a) getting offers that meet our valuation and b) signing about 4 replacements.

Could be worse….could’ve been Birmingham and we might well have found ourselves shouting ‘WHO’ when their opponents made a sub.

I would keep McAteer as he could be a weapon if he continues development, but I was still of the same opinion when he was rumoured to leave. It just tickled me a bit seeing the responses sway around, although might have been a totally different set of people and wasn't a dig at anyone.

This time around there is no sentiment we are building a squad to stay up lessons learnt from last time. We will now get a small fee.
Thanks for all the memories Wes.

Wes plays pretty much at the top of his game, uses his game intelligence and pace perfectly - and would be good for a few cameos in the PL at best really, which would be fine considering his likely other impacts on the squad morale wise etc.

Kasey Mac hasn't yet played at the top of his game, I think, but seemed very much to be on an upward trajectory at the end of last season - finding some aggression and confidence to go with his physical attributes.

If you said to me who do you want for 6 game run against the lesser teams in the PL, I'd say Wes.

But if you said who do you want for a whole season, to contribute and grow into the role, it's clearly Kasey Mac.

But both are backups to Fatawu by the look of things, although Kasey has the potential to challenge that over the course of a developing season.

Good work by Philogene...... GREAT WORK BY PHILOGENE!!!

To your second para, think Joe posted his squad list yesterday and said he was having issues whittling it down to 25.

So not sure we need replacements for all of them.

Two players in each position should suffice given we will be firmly concentrating on 38 leagues games only.

Kasey's movement in these pre season games has been excellent. We spoke of underlapping runs last night and he's been making a lot of him.
I don't know if our recruitment will look at another RW or not, but of those as backups, Kacey is the best of the ones we have to Fatawu

Awful thread to read everyone saying "obviously he's not good enough..."
You can't be proved wrong now, can you? So all you back-seat managers/pundits can light a cigar and sit back and relax.
I think he could have played a huge part in our PL squad, as both a player and an experienced head. I'm more sad about this since he had signed a new contract than I was about Chappers who was clearly moving on.
Sad news. Top player.

Devastated, piece of our soul is departing. Don't begrudge the decision from anyone, can see why it would be the right move for everybody, but it hurts nevertheless.

£150k from Fleetwood, what a signing, what a footballer, what a character, 3 promotions. Legend status.

It will be a long time before we make a signing as successful as Wes Burns again. Universally loved & absolutely instrumental in our revival from L1 mid table mediocrity; not to mention the scorer of one of the greatest goals in the history of the club. Not a bad legacy to be leaving with.
Leicester have picked up 2 guys with great heart, ability, intelligence & attitude from us, legends both; despite Russell Martin being the manager, I'll be wishing them well this season & keeping an eye out for their results.

Maybe "great heart, ability, intelligence & attitude" were missing at Leicester last season? They will certainly bring good professional qualities to their squad, as well as great L1 quality.

The thing that's always impressed me most about Burns, aside from his directness on the ball is how good he is out of possession, he's positional and tactical discipline is quite remarkable and a big factor in why he was always favoured when fit in the big games.

That 2-0 win over Chelsea was a good example, Delap took the plaudits and rightly so but Wes Burns was absolutely phenomenal that night against world class opposition in Cucurella.

Ultimately there's a finite amount of squad places, Fatawu is top dog, Ogbene doesn't have a future, then I guess its an either / or between Wes and McAteer right now, with a 1 in 1 out thereafter.

There's something satisfying about an ex-Norwich player needing to pick up two modern Town legends that are (sadly) probably not quite good enough for us any more, to rescue his new club following an embarrassing double relegation.

Burns scored in the Exeter 6-0, the first in the Huddersfield 2-0, and picked up a pre-assist (I don't care) in the QPR 3-0. What a bloke.
