| Palacios incoming on 09:33 - Aug 18 by bluelagos | Were you on here 25 years ago Pengers? They did exactly that and coincidently (would be harsh to blame Phil and Gav) our descent started pretty much around that time. (Someone please tell me I haven't misremembered it!) And I feel you need a better nickname but Pengers is all I got. [Post edited 18 Aug 9:39]

Yes, that happened pretty much as you remember it. And that's why this site should stay TWTD forever.
| Palacios incoming on 09:59 - Aug 18 with 2613 views | Pinewoodblue | While I am of the opinion that he would prefer to go to a Premier League side that plays in Europe the best way to achieve that is to be playing in that league. Seems to me he is the sort of player who is a hero, if he plays for your club, and villain as far as opposition fans go. We have seen that before with another Argentinian. Win win for me. We improve our chances of staying in the top flight, he puts himself in the shop window, and worst case scenario if we go down we double our money. | |

Funny how some things stick in yer memory and some are misremembered in all good faith. Especially as you get older... Glad I got this one right :-)

I remember that the site logo TWTD was superimposed with "these are the days". Lol, was removed before the end of that horrible season. Phil, Gav and Mark could have some fun with an early April Fool!

| Palacios incoming on 08:11 - Aug 18 by portmanking | Re. flushing out interest - it feels like we may be beyond that point now. No other clubs being mentioned for his signature by any journalist. I imagine Palacios' agent feels like it's a win-win move... star for us this season and then a big 6 club probably comes calling next summer and we make a £10-£15m profit on him. And we establish ourselves as a PL club. Could be as transformative as Xhaka, this lad. [Post edited 18 Aug 8:12]

I know it’s a counterpoint but should we be worried nobody else no wants him?

| Palacios incoming on 08:37 - Aug 18 by SheffordBlue | He may be a paid shill but he's still breaking more stories than anyone else. There's a new website that is tracking journalists for their transfer stories. IMO it needs a longer run than one window to really have a good take on things but it currently has Romano top of the pile - and you can dig into the data behind it if you want. Free account required - https://www.vardict.co.uk/dash |
Exactly this. There is a narrative around the guy and some people like to play into without looking at the actual facts that he is more informed and better at this than everyone.

You can't really judge to much on that these days. We never really know who is in for different players. Does it mean that we shouldn't be excited by outarra for example by the same measure. I'm pretty sure this guy is a data fit, a capability fit and a financial fit where he can be poached due to his ambition combined with some historic injury issues. Injuries can be problematic but they can also be periodic and it becomes a calculated gamble as part of a giant wheel of calculated gambles you have to take as a newly promoted team. There will be pages of strategy behind the scenes that cover performance outcomes. We just have to enjoy what we get this season and if it's not enough it's because 17 or more teams did it better than us and we learn and go again... All things said we can all agree that exact process has been enacted to date and we are where we are. The overall quality of strategy at the club is honestly remarkable and very much under celebrated.

We'll get him on loan ahead of deadline day, probably with a commitment if we stay up. |
lol, he’s not coming to Ipswich on loan with a commitment for another season if we stay up that’s daft!

What's there to explain? We could afford £100k p/w for sure.

Could we? I can't imagine many other players are near the £100k mark. To be fair, These transfer fees are ridiculous now so maybe the salaries are too.

His wages are not as high as that as they didn’t qualify for CL football. Ipswich can easily afford 100-120k a week, it’s really not that hard. For example, Sunderland pay Xhaka 110k PW and 4 players over 80k and are were 16th in the PL total wage spend last season. Some of our fans are out of touch on this.

Diop and co wouldn’t be here if we were paying 30-40k a week.

Easily afford £100k a week? Why are we p!ssing about with these players from Celtic then. Get some better ones on more money! Simples!

Yes, we could easily make that work for a top earner.

No, we won't have any on £100k currently. I'd imagine £70k would be roughly our highest earner currently. However, we have the headroom to comfortably afford 1-2 star/elite players at that level without really losing sleep.

You aren't often in a position where you can attract players genuinely worthy of 100 grand a week in wages to begin with. That's the hard bit - convincing a player of that level to join you from a footballing perspective, because they usually have better options. I'd imagine Lukic and Diop are on upwards of £60k a week. Enciso probably around that sort of figure too.

Can we make it common practice to include a translation when you link a tweet/post please #IpswichTown have submitted a new official offer to #BayerLeverkusen for Exequiel Palacios. The 🇦🇷 World Cup winner is close to playing in the Premier League. [Post edited 18 Aug 13:22]

So is this referring to the second offer which has subsequently either actually not been submitted or rejected already, or to a third offer which could actually the second offer which Leverkusen is considering. Agree on the call for foreign language posts to be translated.
