Never had Norwood down as an Ashton fan… on 22:11 - Sep 1 by Wheres_Burns
I am genuinely shocked anyone would find him clever or clued-up. He's pretty low rent in every department imo and what you'd expect in non-league but not for a grand old club like Ipswich Town. That was the issue and it's testament to McKenna that he managed to get what he could out of him before swiftly moving him on.
Listen to him talk about KM. Pretty astute.

Seems like one of those that plays the class clown but underneath it all is quite smart, from the way he talks etc or maybe he’s just good with words.
Change is uncomfortable and sometimes as a leader you've got to make an example of people not pushing the culture you want.
Funny how he said 'I think he's still there, almost like he's trying to discredit the fact he's been a catalyst to propelling our Football club into a top top football club and business.
Norwood a good striker but his 'lack of professionalism' has clearly harmed his ability to get clubs.

Yet another source claiming Mark Ashton is a petty ego maniac.
Don't think it can be denied at this point.
However his ego, and need to be Billy Big Bullocks drives him to do great things at Ipswich so we can let it slide. In fact, its a benefit to him. But let's not pretend hes anything other than a colossal end of a bell.

Not surprised at all by what he says about Ashton. Good CIO (so far) but way too self important.
But a Norwood could not be allowed to do as he wanted and basically take the mickey out of management. Too massive ego’s coming up against each other - and I’ve no time for either of them.
Of course Norwood is a bit of a kn0bhead and was here during a low point. But he clearly willing to give credit where it's due re McKenna and therefore I think we know part of what he says about Ashtons persona will be true of course. I'm sure many find him not great to work with but then again maybe that's what required to get results.

This. A lot of slagging off people at the club but no mention of some of the major reasons that we would have wanted shot of him
Do you really think that the club would have considered that if he was 10 years younger and on lower wages? We've seen plenty of examples of clubs bending over backwards to support terrible behaviour from players they felt were key. Thomas Partey the prime example but look how we dealt with Chopra and the crap we put up with that same group of players including Bullard, because we thought they'd bring success.
For the record I liked Norwood and that he had some personality while the club was an absolute shítshow and incredibly depressing. However I was really disappointed with his drink driving and can understand people disliking him for that reason.

Not clever or clued enough to book a taxi when going home after night out on the piss.
Twice. He had convictions in 2012 and 2021.
Sorry to contradict those who think otherwise and let’s face it to some ‘our Nors’ was a cult hero but always struck me as not the least bit clever at all. He strikes me as unprofessional, rude, thick as mince and boring with it. A real lower league ham and egg merchant.
What happened with Cooke and his being allowed to play? Who knows. It doesn’t reflect well on Cooke, Norwood or Ashton. But when it comes down to it, Cooke failed. The team couldn’t win consistently and was nowhere near. He did well with literally half his signings which is fine, but didn’t know a team from a teapot.
He got a lot wrong despite having to shovel sht for England with the mess Lambert left and after the apology of a team gave up at Northampton and Wimbledon. Blowing his stack publicly - his first mistake. Norwood was in the side that got thrashed at Northampton btw.
There is irony in describing Ashton as an egotist (of course he is) - there’s no bigger egotist than Norwood. A man who thought it hilarious to go wrestling on Sky whilst claiming he was injured. A professional footballer at a club trying to start to recover from years of decline and who clearly couldn’t give a monkeys.
His timeline for events is wrong too, but memory I guess is a bit of a struggle for him.
So the facts are Norwood was a part of the most disgraceful period of this club’s history. Three promotions in five seasons since. McKenna, certainly the club’s best manager since GB worked with Ashton for five years. How did he manage to do that and why?
The owners who pay Ashton have employed him for over five years. Why? Do they not care? Are they not interested where their money goes? Stupid maybe? Does he reflect them and visa versa? There must be a reason otherwise he’d be gone by now, surely?
Am I defending Ashton? No. I don’t know him and don’t wish to. There’s plenty that’d stop me working for him. But that really isn’t the point. The point is what makes Norwood come out with an interview like that? Especially when he knows that those he accuses cannot answer back.

I wonder if some editing had been done 🤔
Ashton? Thin-skinned? Never.
That said, I've just re-watched that section and can't notice any obvious omissions. I suppose it could be any of the rest of the video that someone else has taken umbrage with.

Not a prophet, or a stone-age man; just a mortal with potential of a superman.

Think that's exactly it. The banter stuff probably works really well at Tranmere but different level here and you just can't be getting away with it. Plus he obviously wound Lambert up 😅 I've got a vague memory of a rumour of him arriving for a game in slippers or something and Lambert going mental. Is that right?
Definitely clever and clued up. No flies on him. Could listen to him for hours!
What about him exactly indicates intelligence? really are setting the bar low.

The same James Norwood who got done for Drink Driving.
Glass houses and all that. Bloke is an idiot.

Yeah I though it was very convenient how he completely forgot to mention that. Maybe he's got short term memory loss from all the booze!
I think a large factor behind his suspension was him getting done for drink driving, especially when the majority of the private equity behind the club was from a pension fund for police officers and firefighters...not a great look.
I mean a testament to Norwood's character is that even when he was breathalised several times, found to be over the limit and then taken to court he still plead not guilty despite being caught bang to rights.

Absolutely nothing. There’s no intelligence at all. Even if you forgive the driving offences (obviously he was unlucky in that the only two times he’s ever driven after going on the lash he got caught. Ahem) there’s nothing clever about his version of honesty, humour or anything else.
Norwood had good lower league ability. He was a professional footballer and to become one at any level is pretty special. So what did he do with his ability? Hose it up the wall. Sad. Was and is he professional as a person? Did he look after his career? No, he’s an oaf. With people like that it’s always somebody else.
If I was one of the owners back in 2001, I’d have wanted him out.

Under the new ownership, no I don’t think it would have made a difference. Obviously under Marcus Evans it was a sh*tshow and nothing would surprise me but I think the culture that was instilled under Ashton and McKenna wouldn’t have allowed someone like Norwood to be involved, regardless of age (as shown with Brandon Williams where I think from what we know the club done pretty much everything right).
Ashton has plenty of faults but I don’t think he’s someone who would accept the lack of professionalism that someone like Norwood brings to the party, regardless of age or value

The main thing I gleaned from that is that his career, whilst relatively successful, was hindered by his lack of early professional development, 99.9% of youngsters come through academies and learn how to apply themselves, this guy came through Eastbourne Town, which was "Win or lose, on the booze'.
The fact he got steaming the night before a game for Exeter and throwing up next to the director on the coach jsut he signed his first pro contract, tells you everything.
He was an amateur player in a professional environment, probably why he didn't stay anywhere long.
Regarding Ashton, think we all know he has a big ego, it's not hidden away, Norwood also had a big ego, which is probably why they clashed and there was always going to be one winner.
Lots of blaming others in that video, rather than looking inwards to situations he found himself in.
