Grant Wards debut 21:46 - May 28 with 4201 views | OwainG1992 | Can anyone think of an impact made on his debut by anybody as good or as exciting as his a few years ago? Clearly boredom has taken over but got me thinking. Perhaps someone who on first viewing had you thinking wow we've got a talent right there!

Derby game sprang immediately to mind. I thought it was his debut but maybe not. Can't be bothered to check.

With the big difference that Marshall did (pretty much) live up to it. That debut was at Oldham who he had signed from so must have been extra sweet for him as they had played him as a defender and did not rate him as a striker at all. Ward's was so different from what he offered for the rest of his time here. Didn't John Wark also have a very impressive debut? I seem to recall something about a national journalist praising Beattie's performance when it was Wark deputising for him.

Grant Wards debut on 22:19 - May 28 with 2652 views | BlueandTruesince82 | I thought Ellis Harrison looked really good in a pre season at MK Dons. Arrived at the ground just as the ITFC coach pulled up, Hurst looked smug, someone asked Waghorn if he was staying and he just said I don't know and I thought yep, he's off. But yeah, he didn't score but I thought Harrison was going to cause defences trouble after that game

Pretty average debut at Barnsley, scored a fine goal but was nothing special. Scowcroft was the star man that day. As for Finidi George, his debut was at Sunderland and he did little.

Strictly speaking, his debut was away at Sunderland, Derby was his home debut. I'm allowing it because I've also claimed it.

John Wark made his debut in 75 in the 3rd replay against Leeds playing as Centre Half. He was marking Allan Clarke who gave him a bit of a nightmare stamping, nipping, pushing, verbally abusing and punching, you name it - the usual Leeds pleasantries. Wark stuck to his task pretty well, through Clarke did score but oddly the nastiness stopped middle of the second half. Many years later I heard the reason. According to Wark, Allan Hunter sidled over and said ‘one more and ill break your f–-ing leg’. He would have done too. Mariner’s debut was devastating and the best I saw from an Ipswich player, but then I am a bit biased. [Post edited 28 May 2021 23:11]

Grant Wards debut on 23:17 - May 28 with 2442 views | catch74 | Think Baltacha scored on his debut, not sure how well he played but believe he was the first player from the the Soviet Union to play in an English team. He only scored the one goal for Ipswich too.

He looked like a fish out of water. Unsurprising as he was inexplicably played on the right hand side of midfield. He probably only touched the ball half a dozen times other than the goal. Most of the damage came from Redford on the other flank in a 5-1 win on a proper old school mudbath. [Post edited 28 May 2021 23:40]

Yep. Best ever ITFC debut. A very good player, key member of the first Robson side, England international etc, but 'difficult'.

Home debut maybe? It was certainly encouraging, Finidi was a funny one, he actually got a reasonable goal total and showed glimpses of quality Perhaps he needed a season to bed in as players sometimes do the Premier League, sadly we never got to find out I believe he had a fairly tasty appearance fee which meant playing him in the Championship was a no goer? Was Blackpool Shumi's first game? The Macedonian Stevie G, he certainly looked like it there [Post edited 29 May 2021 2:00]

The day I became a Town fan. 6 year old me saw it on Match of the Week - first game I can remember watching. Colin Viljoen is to blame!
