Keep your dogs in the coolest room you have.

Not true. Dogs love to be warm that’s why they lie in front of the fire.

Best thing is probably not to let them walk on burning hot pavements - and take them for walkies early and late.

100%. And don't leave them in the boot of your car while you go to the beach or any idiotic sh1t like that. And make sure they stay well hydrated.

Mine is currently lying under my kitchen table on the tile floor, in the shade. It's quite a nice spot in this weather, I'm half tempted to join her.

They tend to take themselves away from the fire when they get too hot though. Much more difficult to do of the fire ball in the sky if they're not given an alternative.

Agree perhaps keeping them in a particular room isn't necessary, but making sure they can always access the coolest room is essential.

Mine self regulates fairly well, she's currently upstairs under a desk in the coolest room.

She'll start struggling a bit later but we've basically just closed all the blinds / curtains in the house to keep the heat out.

Just because they love to be warm doesn't mean you let them out in this. Awful take.

Dogs are daft and will often lay in the sun without reading the weather report.

It is true that the boot of a car is a disaster but direct sun in this heat is also not good and they also get sunburnt as the daft apaths lay on their backs - we have to sun cream our white hound regularly.

Confession time.

When I first knew my misses, we went to visit her Leicester relations. We stopped off in Southgate for a nice lunch and left Charlie Brown the hamster in his cage on the back seat with water etc (she was a teacher and kept one for the schoolchildren).

Well, after a long and pleasurable lunch we get back to my not so trusty Ford Escort to find the sun had moved around (more correctly the earth) and the hamster was getting the full glass blast version through the back window - and was wheezing it’s last.

I tried to revive it as we headed up the M1, but to no avail. The gf is in hysterics and I’m wondering what to do with a dead hamster. I suggested launching Charlie out of the window in the outside lane, Spock style. More wails - bad idea. So I gave it a good Christian burial in Leicester with a brick or two on top to keep the foxes off.

Moral of the tale? - do be aware of pets needs. I’ve a couple of young cats and will get them in shortly as the house is now cooler than the outside. Shade and water and they’ll look after themselves. Quite happily.

RIP Charlie Brown.

Yes, piggies don't like the heat either. They roll in their own dung to be cool. Doesn't always work. Then they rub against their pens. That's why their posts are always sh!tty.

Sorry, I've forgot what I was talking about, must be the heat.

We normally have our kitchen door ajar so the dog can wonder in and out. Went outside the other day to find her lying down on a dark manhole cover in the baking sun lol.

We have cool mats, fan in the living room and our hallway is always cool.

Keeping my cat inside for next couple of days. She's proper got the hump about it, but it's for her own good.
