Basically Mark Ashton has played a blinder... 12:27 - Jul 15 with 6989 viewsKieran_Knows

... knew Stoke wouldn't get the work permit, and we'll now get Celina cheaper as Dijon just want him off their books.

Good work.

Poll: We’ve got super KM, he knows exactly what we need. Woolfie at the back…

I'm assuming it'll end up being another loan.

This is the final challenge to see if the banter era is finally over.

If it’s not over…. we’ll sign him and he’ll do an ACL during the first ten minutes of the Bolton game.

If it is over….. e-i-e-i…..

The banter era won’t be over until the first team no longer play in the pizza cup or enter the FA Cup at the first round proper.

Big assumption that this was some sort of master plan.

Because we're too big to be in L1, right?

That's him off to Turkey then.

It does make sense.

If we had gone in for him early doors, Dijon would have charged us top whack.

His options are limited now and you'd hope we can structure a better deal now.

I really like how MA goes about business for us, but I don't think he played the blinder as you say - just think we got fortunate regarding work permit regulations.

Must remember, still the chance that Celina will go abroad.

Yes. We deserve to be here based on the last decade, but that doesn't mean we should be here.

Does the same go for all the other clubs of a similar size, or bigger in a number of cases, that have been down here then?

I find it an interesting view that we should be 'embarrassed' to have to compete in the division we're in whenever someone says it. We're factually not too big to be there.

We’ll never know but it would be interesting to know whether MA anticipated this or not. How did stoke get so far through negotiations without this being flagged up as an issue? I wouldn’t think it would take too much research, or picking up the phone to someone, to know that he wouldn’t achieve a work permit for them. Seems like they’ve wasted a lot of time and energy on a deal that was never going to happen.

Yes it does, it's even more embarrassing for us because we haven't had a major drama like Administration that has seen us sink here.

And to top it all we’ve never even challenged for promotion, at least other clubs our size who got stuck here have finished top 6 within 3 years of dropping down. An absolute disgrace we’ve been so far off it.

Add in the fact that we have most likely the largest budget in the division (and a fair few Championship sides) as well as being in the top three for home/away support then it is definitely an embarrassment.

Accepting anything other than that is pretty damning and a sign of how far we have fallen.

Exactly.

We deserve to be here. Evans was a failure and we were rubbish and we haven't been good enough to get out.

But Ipswich Town should never be in a position, with even mildly competent ownership, with the pull of the club, fan base and so on to be in the third tier.

The same as if Spurs or Everton went down, that would be epic mismanagement if they ended up in the Championship, the latter nearly were. You have to go some to fail that badly, but of course if they went down it would be deserved.

The club simply doesn't reasonably belong at this level, but the beauty of sport is that any team can be above or beyond where they should probably sit based on good or bad decisions and let's hope our stay is only 10 more months.

Although he'd clearly prefer to play for Stoke on their terms.

And that in the first season down we had 27 points from 11 games and contrived to miss the ppg Play Offs from a level that seemed impossible

Stoke clearly offered more in terms of a loan fee/ % of wages that were can/ were.

BC has made it known that he'd be delighted to come back here and we'd have him....issues def with Dijon as you say....and not so much them being difficult....more that they need him or as much of him off their books.

It was a weird one.

We were great in three of those games but I don't think we were that impressive in many of the others. Team seemed to give us way too much respect and it was that Doncaster / Accrington double header (or was it Rotherham / Accrington?) when teams realised we couldn't compete physically and we just got bullied and outplayed often from there.
