Seems an absolutely thankless job. They always seem terrible.

It's strange they are so crap with so many of our former players. That's not a joke either. I know they are ageing but you'd think they'd have enough quality for league 2.

Truly impaired.

I think the desire has gone for many, even here some were coasting towards then end of their career.

I'm sure Chambo and Skuse give it their all but I think deep down they know that Colchester are treading water, much like we were in their time, no expectation, no real investment.

I'll go a a return for Paul Lambert to the club that started it all, he knows they players, they know him, that's club owner logic there

There’s a club whose ground move didn’t go well for them.

He’s sold up down here and (presumably) moved back to Midlands so doubt it

Will be an internal appointment as always is

They have been there all last season and this season so I think it’s fair to say they are not good enough for League 2. One of the main reasons for our decline over the past few years was these guys.

Is that very recent? He was interviewed on SSN recently from Ipswich. Would be unfortunate for him if he has just moved.

Lambert's departure was acrimonious. (More so than Burley's, for example.)

Surely he needs his op first. In any case, would he be a good fit? Id say not. Chambers/Skuse? I could see them taking it on.

However, Col U seems a bit of a mess, but I don’t know enough about them - is it a good place to start in management?

So Brown has gone.

What a strange club. Me and the boy went to see them vs Carlisle (Holy) before I bought the season pass on iFollow for Town.

Wonderful set up there for a small club. The stadium is starting to look a bit tired in places and the attendance was absolutely pitiful, as usual.

They have all the foundations for being succesful and making a real push to move up the divisions, but it just seems like there is relucant acceptance of being at the right level. Player wise, Sam Hornby is good, Noel Chilvers is also good but seems to be buying into his own hype. Other than that it's pretty flat. Alan Judge is a busted flush. He's done.

Junior Tchamadeu however, looks a real player. Absolutely nullified Kyle Edwards in the Carabao Cup game on his debut.

I like Colchester, but it's a club that can't work out how to fulfil its potential. Weird.

Sam Hornby has actually been second choice, but yes, both keepers are decent. I agree about Judge, though I have tried and tried to think it might work.

The last paragraph here is pretty good, and sums up what most supporters think is wrong. It could actually be reduced to two words: Tony Humes. (I don't know if that's fair.) https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/62949869

I have no idea who might be in the offing for the job. A list i saw online last night had these suggestions. Obviously a Darren Ferguson would raise morale among the fans considerably. It's a pity Brown did so well at the end of least season, because Johny Jackson was available before he went to Wimbledon.

Whoever it is has to give the impression that they are not beholden to Humes.

They’ve gone downhill ever since they moved stadium.

Layer Road was somewhere that had a certain charm, their fans were comfortable their and they’d almost always get bigger crowds than they do now.

There’s a significant minority who don’t bother going to their games now at the Weston Homes.
And as they’re now one of the clubs with the smallest average attendance in the League, it’s increasingly hard to compete.

They’ve been circling the drain for a season or two now and will go down and through it sooner or later and that’ll be the last we see of them as a League club.
