It was quite something to watch. Blackburn looked hopeless to start with. Millwall simply gifted them a couple of goals. The Championship is a tough league but we're well equipped for it.
It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.
I remember that final day in Burley's first full year where we needed to win against Millwall to make the play-offs, we drew 0-0 and missed out but we sent them down and they rearranged the ground a bit. Remember loads of chairs being ripped out and being chucked around.
I was too young for the original hooligan stuff in the 80s but that was the only time I've seen a proper kicking-off inside a ground.

Yeah, pre-mobile phone days too, so it came as a total surprise to all of them when the final score was read out, hence the response (and the failure of plod to react accordingly).
Scowcroft hit the 'cursed' NS post with about 15 minutes to go; we'd have gone into the POs if he'd scored.
Millwall were top in November that season, absolutely remarkable collapse.

I was at that one. A truly awful day of football. Compare and contrast last Saturday.
Just read that Milwall have been out of the top flight for 34 years. arf

So was I. It was a desperate afternoon, I can’t remember whether Millwall played in green and white halved shirts or red and white but I can remember them not venturing beyond the half way line in the hope of a draw. Idiots. Their supporters as has been said ripped out the seats and used them as frisbees.

Under Mick McCarthy IIRC, then he left to manage RoI ðŸ˜

I'd have loved to see them up in the Prem, that would ruffle a few feathers and really put West Ham's noses out of joint.
They still have a decent number of idiots, but as a Club they do a lot of good and are a genuine community club.
No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

It must have been red and white, pretty sure I would remember green and white halved shirts, I do remember the seats flying out of the Cobbold upper (being in the Britannia lower for that match, luckily they didn't have the range to hit us.)

it was green and white for sure, and Millwall might have showed no ambition that game, but we were nothing to write home about that match either, there was a distinct air of alot of players on both sides comfortable with a draw and an early end to the season, and some of those players on Towns side were moved on quite quickly.
we'd actually sat in the Cobbold upper, as I think the club had a ticket promotion that game, something like £10 sit in any stand and its a good view from there near the posh seats on the halfway line, So that got exciting very quickly to say the least.
and no fans didnt have mobile phones to check results, but nearly every 5th fan in the ground had a transistor radio and would listen to the radio commentary, and every so often youd get a random cheer in the ground, or a boo as the scores were coming through and the scores were being shared around.
so the Millwall fans absolutely knew the position before the final whistle, and theyd been ripping up seats since the first half.
but I thought someone a few years back had admitted it was a planned ruck as I know when we left the ground as quickly as we could & headed out towards Princes street, there were more Millwall fans who hadnt been at the game actually coming from the Drum & Monkey direction, running towards us.

I think the seat chucking really started after we decided to sing - going down going down going down. It wasn't the smartest move.

For the record, not all Wall fans are animals. I headed down Portman Road to the station and was successfully dodging punches and kicks before being confronted by one of them who actually asked if I ‘wanted some’, and when I said no I was late for my train, he stepped aside. True story.

Some older lads had been waiting for the opportunity to get them down here since 78”. Mate of mine , Town season ticket holder, only moved back from Bermondsey fairly recently, said they admitted they were caught out a bit that day.

One of my more vivid footballing memories, just turned 16, got the train for the final day with two mates.
Game was dull, inevitable you'd see them act up when relegation was confirmed.
My memory was that it was chaos, but some seem to say there wasn't much, but seeing a middle aged angry Millwall fan charging at me with a chair in his hand was pretty worrying as a 10st teen who'd barely exited puberty. The squeeky voiced antagonistic little pr*ck that I was clearly did the trick lol!
Still to this day no idea how he got that chairt outside the ground.
I remember thinking that I wasn't going to fare well, and whilst I was cocky and had the youthful bravado, I was also midful I used to get my head kicked in from those fights I found myself in with those my own age and this beer bellied monster this means i'm going to get hurt.
Anyway, story gets cut short as it all ended well for me.... from nowhere, some hero plod came hurtling through the air like Courtney Lawes and bounced this dude into the concrete.
We left. The end.

Millwall needed to win to avoid relegation, Town needed to win to make play offs.
Neither team was good enough to achieve their objective.

Such a long time ago so can't remember exactly but on a certain site that has long since been closed down, one Millwall lad said something that to this day tickles me.
It was something like "We had them on the back foot until that g*** n**** and his merry men turned up, fair play to them"
“Hello, I'm your MP. Actually I'm not. I'm your candidate. Gosh.”
Boris Johnson canvassing in Henley, 2005.

In my previous job, a West Ham fan (about 55/58 years old) also referred to him as that.
Ruffled a few feathers back in the day didn’t he 😂
