I like Alan Lee but he doesn't even get into the 12 best Town strikers this century. If he is on that list, I reckon it doesn't include anyone from before 2000 and was put together by a Rotherham or nodge fan. Not going to grace the site with a hit by clicking the link.

I think this quote gives the gist:

'Alun Armstrong may not be someone the younger Ipswich fans are aware of, as he played for the club from 2000 to 2004'.

It's offensive isn't it 😂

He admits to David Johnson being placed lower because he doesn't really remember him so that gives a good sense of the knowledge behind the piece.

That must be David Johnson mark II as well. I never saw the first one play but know he was a better player from all I hear. I guess the author has totally ignored players like Mariner, Gates and Brazil let alone Crawford. The author really should rename the article "Some of Ipswich's recent strikers".

Tamas Priskin...dear Lord.

He might just scrape into a list of the top 100 Ipswich strikers for the goal against Arsenal, and that's being very generous.

No way! That's a total joke. Priskin looked very skilful for Watford but did nothing after. It looks like the author discovered he was an international and thought he must have been good.

...Trevor Wymark, David Johnson I, Ted Phillips. Even Rod Belfitt would rank higher than most on that list.

Eric Gates, Frank Clarke, Dalian Atkinson, Kevin Wilson, David Lowe.

I'm sure there are many more.

That looks like it was written by a Norwich fan to make us look as tinpot as them.

You did well. It was a shocker. Wrong, lazy, uninformed - actually, idiotic. Says a lot about the publication itself as well as about the "author".

To give you a flavour, Danny Haynes appears in the upper reaches of the chart.

He did manage to name one of Ipswich's best 12 strikers ever, though.

The list would have to include:

Ramsay era:

Ray Crawford
Ted Phillips
Jimmy Leadbitter

Robson era:

Paul Mariner
Alan Brazil
Trevor Whymark
Eric Gates

Two possibles: David Johnson (I) who went on to win plenty with Liverpool and David Geddis won FA Cup with us, plus League Champons and European Cup at Villa

Subsequent:

Dallian Atkinson (non-negotiable for me)
Marcus Stewart

Possibles:
Paul Goddard
Steve Whitton
Chris Kiwomya
David Johnson (II)
Darren Bent

I can't include Shefki Kuqi or Pablo Counago, as neither had prolonged success at the top level with us or anyone else, whereas Bent did.

Alun Armstrong, Connor Wickham and Marcus Bent miss out, as do Kevin Wilson and Alan Sundeland.

In three years time Conor Chaplin will be in the top 12.

I'd have Murphy (and a few others) above Goddard every day of the week. 13 goals in 72 games does not merit a place in a list of our best ever strikers. Much as I liked Steve Whitton, there's plenty of more recent strikers more worthy of a place than him as well.

Goddard was a terrific footballer who would have comfortably made our top 12 had he arrived 5 years earlier. He made a good contribution and was important to us, but his legs had gone, hence his descent from a goal every 3 games in his prime. Whitton? Good player for us but not top 12.
