Goddard was a terrific footballer who would have comfortably made our top 12 had he arrived 5 years earlier. He made a good contribution and was important to us, but his legs had gone, hence his descent from a goal every 3 games in his prime. Whitton? Good player for us but not top 12. |
Completely agree that he was a very good player in his day (did he get an England cap at West Ham?) but he was past his prime when he joined us and I find it hard to rate him higher than someone like Murphy who alongside one exceptional season with us produced a good few others where his return was decent. |  |

I am afraid you are showing your lack of knowledge there. In no way was was Jimmy Leadbetter a striker, and nor was Eric Gates. There are about 6 or 7 certs imo. Actually, that’s fair. 4 or 5 - Brazil was a more lethal, pure striker than Whymark, but Trevor played for us longer and was a great partner to both Johnson and PM.
