Ipswich 12 Greatest Strikers on 09:33 - Sep 9 by Churchman | Goddard was a terrific footballer who would have comfortably made our top 12 had he arrived 5 years earlier. He made a good contribution and was important to us, but his legs had gone, hence his descent from a goal every 3 games in his prime. Whitton? Good player for us but not top 12. |
Completely agree that he was a very good player in his day (did he get an England cap at West Ham?) but he was past his prime when he joined us and I find it hard to rate him higher than someone like Murphy who alongside one exceptional season with us produced a good few others where his return was decent.

Similarly, John O'Rourke had little more than a season with us but what a spectacular return, thirty goals in sixty nine games, that short period of time was.

Ipswich 12 Greatest Strikers on 02:58 - Sep 9 by ArnoldMoorhen | To give you a flavour, Danny Haynes appears in the upper reaches of the chart. He did manage to name one of Ipswich's best 12 strikers ever, though. The list would have to include: Ramsay era: Ray Crawford Ted Phillips Jimmy Leadbitter Robson era: Paul Mariner Alan Brazil Trevor Whymark Eric Gates Two possibles: David Johnson (I) who went on to win plenty with Liverpool and David Geddis won FA Cup with us, plus League Champons and European Cup at Villa Subsequent: Dallian Atkinson (non-negotiable for me) Marcus Stewart Possibles: Paul Goddard Steve Whitton Chris Kiwomya David Johnson (II) Darren Bent I can't include Shefki Kuqi or Pablo Counago, as neither had prolonged success at the top level with us or anyone else, whereas Bent did. Alun Armstrong, Connor Wickham and Marcus Bent miss out, as do Kevin Wilson and Alan Sundeland. In three years time Conor Chaplin will be in the top 12. |
I am afraid you are showing your lack of knowledge there. In no way was was Jimmy Leadbetter a striker, and nor was Eric Gates. There are about 6 or 7 certs imo. Crawford, Phillips, Johnson Mark1, Whymark, Mariner and Stewart, all of whom were successful at the highest level. The rest is up for debate. [Post edited 9 Sep 2023 10:44]

Ipswich 12 Greatest Strikers on 10:48 - Sep 9 with 2381 views | runaround | The second article about our “hard men” is even more embarrassing! Probably “Henry’s” age counts against him but surely if you are going to have an article published you would do your research? Guessing it just sums up that particular publication

Ipswich 12 Greatest Strikers on 07:29 - Sep 9 by Herbivore | I'd have Murphy (and a few others) above Goddard every day of the week. 13 goals in 72 games does not merit a place in a list of our best ever strikers. Much as I liked Steve Whitton, there's plenty of more recent strikers more worthy of a place than him as well. |
And Whitton played as a wide midfielder

I pretty much agree with this bar one change and the order 1.Paul Mariner 2 Ray Crawford 3 Ted Phillips 4 Trevor Whymark 5 Eric Gates 6 Alan Brazil 7 David Johnson 1970s 8 Marcus Stewart 9 Darren Bent 10 Chris Kiwomya 11 Daryl Murphy 12 David Johnson 1990s Honourable mentions to John O’Rourke whose impact was phenomenal. Also to Alex Mathis (hat trick against who?), Kevin Wilson and apologies to players before Crawford/Phillips time.

Finally we’ve got to the best 12 .... I’d have Brazil at 4 is my only change to the order

Actually, that’s fair. 4 or 5 - Brazil was a more lethal, pure striker than Whymark, but Trevor played for us longer and was a great partner to both Johnson and PM. Terrific players.

I was gutted that Ebanks-Blake was so disappointing, he'd been a successful signing of mine every year for about 5 years on Fifa manager mode running up to that point!

Ipswich 12 Greatest Strikers on 09:08 - Sep 9 by BudapestByBlimp | At least Henry has definitively ended the Pablo vs Kuqi debate. |
Of course Pablo is ahead. Wouldn't catch Kuqi playing 241 games in four years...
