From one of the Hull forums: 23:14 - Oct 3 with 8386 views | homer_123 | The question is, do you know how Ipswich managed to play the way 'Rosieball should be played'? Because back in 2021, they took a chance on a young, inexperienced manager with a long term plan. And despite some bumps in the road, they stuck with him, allowed his style to evolve over a couple of seasons, and now they're one of the best footballing sides in the 92. Sounds like a good thing to follow...

There were some calling for his head post Bristol Rovers. Which was ridiculous at the time, but seems moronic now

Lincoln home and away last season, Kieran was in despair post match at Sincil Bank due to their cheating tactics. Remember the pen against us. Lincoln player initiating the contact. That's about it. Can't think of any others.

We definitely struggled post Charlton until we put our insane winning run together. The club (Ashton I guess) deserve credit for sticking with him. The arrival of our 4 January players helped kickstart our season.

That’s the only game I’ve been to in the last 18 months (straight from LHR as well). [Post edited 4 Oct 2023 2:11]

Poetic license I think, the poster is trying to prove a point by making it sound more dramatic than it actually is. Also, better fits his agenda…… | | | | Login to get fewer ads

This one. Hadn't we signed them 4 then it would have been a hard battle to finish in the top 6. Best transfer window for a very long while.

We have had bumps in the road under McKenna. After his strong start we finished 2021/22 with just 2 wins in the last 9, and prior to our winning run at the end of last season we had only won 1 in 8, or 4 of 15 to go back slightly longer Obviously both are minor in the scheme of things and neither put McKenna anywhere close to serious trouble (and contrary to a couple of posts in this thread nor was anyone seriously calling for his head), but I make the Hull poster correct in saying there have been bumps

The thing is that while we weren’t winning much, we weren’t losing either. We only lost four games all season. You could see what they were trying to do and they looked close to doing it before the post February steamroller. Our form prior to Jan was pretty good in that we were never out of the top four (I don’t think!). Was there bumps in the road? If there were any, they were small ones. McKenna was and is learning (which is why taking a job like the Rangers one at this time would be mad). Did the team start to find different ways to hurt teams, sometimes go a little more direct etc? Not for me to say not seeing them live or enough last season, but they certainly play that way now. Was there a serious question of booting KM out? A few on here wanted him gone (need somebody with experience, get Colin in etc) but most didn’t and certainly those running the club didn’t. Maybe if we had been wallowing around like Stoke are now having signed a load of players they might have. Regardless, what is happening at the moment is remarkable. Beyond my wildest dreams. I think we will get stronger too.

We only won one in eight between Portsmouth at home at Bristol Rovers where, if you remember, Morsy had a confrontation with a supporter. We were eight points off Wednesday then, and they had a game in hand.

Sorry, my lack of detail lead to incorrect extrapolation. Serious question of booting KM out? I don't think so. My thinking here was compare the calm direction of Ashton (looking at underlaying statistics and saying results will come and fine margins not going our way were to blame) compared to say, Watford, where he likely would have been sacked (I remember some quoting a worse win rate or ppg than cook when he was sacked). We still had to go to Barnsley, Derby, Bolton, and Peterborough and pick up wins. So a lot of conviction from the club to stick with their man and I'm glad we had Ashton in place than other CEOs.
