great hladky article on 19:08 - Oct 19 with 4080 views | Herbivore | Lovely stuff. He comes across very well and you get a sense it's a squad packed full of decent characters. A lot of experienced pros in our side reference McKenna being the best manager they've worked under, I get you kind of have to say that about your current boss, but it feels like they all genuinely mean it.

Tbf I don't recall too many players saying that about Lambert..........

Had no idea about the friendship with Josef Sural and that he has his name on his gloves, which resonates with me as my best mate died from cancer almost a year ago. I do hope he gets a call up to the Czech national team.

great hladky article on 20:40 - Oct 19 with 3779 views | Pique | Great article, and Hladky comes across really well. We're lucky to have him. Just one tiny oddity that caught my eye - he lives in Cambridge? Didn't Ashton get everyone to sign something saying they committed to living within 10 miles of Ipswich or something, or did I imagine that? Not that it really matters, just curious.

The Mrs had a job offer in Cambridge, so we did the tour and had a look at prices, then stayed with our extra 2 bedrooms and bathrooms in Wales! Although the thought of being stuck in the middle of an agricultural wasteland didn’t appeal much either. It’s not that it’s a bad area, but I don’t think I could leave where we are now other than for somewhere really special (even if the trek to the footie is a pain).

Didn't Keane fall out with players because he wanted them to live locally so they'd arrive fresh for training? Cambridge is probably a great place to live if you're a Don or a biotech CEO but hard if you're a nurse or a shop worker.
great hladky article on 23:11 - Oct 19 with 3292 views | blue_curacao | "When you play through the pressure and they’re applauding, it gives you such energy.” I love how the fans have taken to this approach. I can't imagine going back to how we (and most other teams) played before. And Hladky is so good with his feet that I think Walton will struggle to get back in the team any time soon
great hladky article on 00:35 - Oct 20 with 3169 views | burnbudgiesburn | I'm intrigued by what happens with Hladky contract wise. You would think we would offer him a new one fairly quickly given we are likely to get domestic offers for him in January and foreign teams can offer him deals. I previously thought that he would run out his contract here as no.2 and be replaced by Slicker next year.

Need to get him tied down on a new long term deal before January. Few keepers at this level are as good with the ball as Hladky. He is fundamental in terms of how McKenna want's us to play.

There's still a few around me who shout "FFS just launch it!" when we're playing out from the back. I usually shoot them a glance. They looked very silly when they shouted at Hladky as he started off the move for Chaplin's goal.

Glad you’ve posted that quote, it’s a really good insight as to the part we supporters can have on the players. We need to keep it in mind (and share with those who still persist in moaning and call for them to hoof it) when things aren’t going so well.

I think they do generally want people to live fairly close, but I'm fairly sure that Greg Leigh used to live in Chelmsford when he was here, so it definitely isn't a hard and fast rule.

Think Kevin Lisbie was one of the culprits. Stayed living in London which I think the club tried to do something about.

great hladky article on 13:45 - Oct 20 with 2509 views | ghostofescobar | Great article. You know, I still sometimes read these things about Ipswich and it seems like it's being written about another team, I'm just so not used to it: "Everything is coming off for Ipswich, who have won nine of 11 games in the Championship by playing some of the best football in the country" - "The prospects seem limitless at Portman Road under Kieran McKenna, who has turned two decades of failure on their head to create a vibrant Ipswich team that play to packed, bouncing houses." - “I think something special is happening here every day,” he says. “It’s a great, great place to be."

great hladky article on 15:33 - Oct 20 with 2390 views | Reus30 | I said on here a couple of games ago he is looking like prime Manuel Neuer and I watched the player cam of him the other day and I certainly see it. Just a top lad, patient and he has grabbed his opportunity with both hands (and feet!). This is a very special squad right now.

He doesn't get a mention in the article, but another 'nice fella' is Rene Gilmartin. What good fortune it was for both him and Town that John McGreal got the interim manager's job and brought him on board. I wonder if it's Gilmartin's job to train the keepers how to keep the ball out and Lee Grant's to tell them what to do with it once they've got it.
