Does recruitment seem odd to anyone else?? on 11:17 - Jan 23 with 4450 views | SheffordBlue | I think it's just that McKenna likes to have lots of options in those roles and frequently rotates all of them during a game. It's also a 'unit' where we've had significant injuries during the season which has really impacted on his ability to impact games with subs.

Whether he might look to move anyone on before the window closes remains to be seen. Nathan Broadhead’s former loan club Sunderland were keen to bring him back to Wearside late in the summer window, while we understand Middlesbrough have more recently been keeping tabs on the Wales international.

Does recruitment seem odd to anyone else?? on 11:19 - Jan 23 with 4377 views | wrightsrightglove | LW: Philogene Broady Clarke 10: Enciso Szmodics Chappers RW: Hutchinson Johnson Burns We’ll need different players depending on how we set up. Our bench is now considerably stronger and that’s crucial with how we play. As the season draws to an end there’s every possibility that we’re going to have games where we’re going to have to go all out attack and go for a win big fat Joe style
Does recruitment seem odd to anyone else?? on 11:23 - Jan 23 with 4232 views | greyhound | What gives to me is the following Encisco replaces the very unfortunate predicament of ogbene. Clarke is probably recognised as being in touch but not there Burns see above Jaden - the upgrade we actually wanted Chaplin - sell Broadhead - I'm puzzled but what I've seen he's plenty good this season Hutchinson- clear starter Szmodics - done ok Out of nine options for 2/3 spaces we are only now at a point where we probably have 3 quality up to the level players. It's been hard to adapt, and you take those nine into the championship and we clean up. Shows the margins really. So hard to forget that some of those are from league one and still do a job in the prem. When signed it's an aspiration but they must be living an absolute dream regardless of results. Hard to imagine how tough this year must be for our league 1 players. They got us here so well and we seem to have power to keep signing over the top of them. I hope with all those you've listed though we have space, wages and money in the bank to get a number nine.

Does recruitment seem odd to anyone else?? on 11:25 - Jan 23 with 4132 views | Bellevue_Blue | We've scored 20 goals in 22 games. If upgrades like Philogene and Enciso are there to be made, we absolutely have to do that regardless of what we may have done in the summer. For the first time in a while, we might be able to look at our bench on Saturday with optimism that they might actually be able to create some attacking momentum. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Clarke is the obvious one to move out on loan if we can get Sunderland to bring him in. He looks shot at the minute and maybe getting away will help him. Difficult deal to do though i would think.
Does recruitment seem odd to anyone else?? on 11:33 - Jan 23 with 3967 views | gringoblue | In terms of numbers, not odd if you think that: - we don't score enough goals, especially at home when the onus is on us to be proactive in attack. Look at how many goals last season came from the 3 behind the striker. More than double that our strikers scored. This season, strikers have scored more. Our 10s and wide players are not scoring. Stop Delap, you stop Ipswich. - we fade in games (again most pronounced at home) and don't pose enough threat second half - 3 of those are currently injured, one of whom is out for the season. I doubt the remaining 8 will stay fit for the remainder of the season - mckenna clearly wants to be able to switch back to our usual lopsided 4231, and now has better options to replace the 3 with 30 minutes to go / switch them positionally etc. Now whether we have recruited the right players...

Ogbene, Philogene, Clarke, Enciso, Szmodics In for Sarmiento, Harness, Jackson, Aluko Ogbene out for season or near enough (admittedly Aluko wasn’t first on the team sheet.) Also time for someone to go out on loan or be sold.

Chappers was one of our better players before he got injured and would be a key piece of the puzzle if we got relegated! I still think he offers something genuinely different in the No 10 to what we get when Omari plays (not better, just different). If we are going to lose one, it's almost certainly off the left. Why would you sell him?

I don't think Chaplin was particularly effective in the Championship.I love the guy for his passion and commitment, but is that enough ? and have we enough fighters and grinders in this squad to survive. You would never say Wimbledon were a team of very skilful players but they had the Vinny Joneses in their squad.

Yes, and that was fair enough in the Championship. But we’ve effectively got nine players to play behind the striker. And in many games recently we’ve only had two roles behind Delap. Wow! And we’ll probably get another striker too… Unless we are unlucky with injuries in the next few months, there’s going to be a lot of players getting very little game time.

Why is it any different in the PL? I think a lack of quality and legs from the bench has cost us a few points already this season. We've faded in several games. Ogbene is injured for the whole season. Chaplin and Szmodics are out. It only takes a couple of injuries and suddenly you look a bit light again.
Does recruitment seem odd to anyone else?? on 13:05 - Jan 23 with 2897 views | Dubtractor | Park the number of players for the moment. Last season our AMs scored the majority of our goals - at a quick glance more than 50 goals from those in the 3 positions behind the striker. For comparison, Hirst and Moore got 7 each. This season we're really struggling to get goals from those positions, and with it having been such a key part of our attacking play since McKenna arrived, I'm not surprised he's shuffling the pack a bit to try and get more impact.

He got 13 goals and 9 assists!? That ranked 7th in the whole division for goal contributions behind Armstrong, Szmodics, Summerville, Whittaker, Dewsbury-Hall and Sara. He was the definition of effective beyond his passion and commitment.

Ahhh I'd be very disappointed if we sold Chaplin. People have mentioned Woolfy in the same bracket but he has been so pivotal and so representative of ITFC. I expect the likes of Davis to leave because he's destined for greater things but Chaplin and Burns, while they won't set fire to the PL I still want them at the club.

I’m surprised some people are unable to grasp this. We have had no impact players from the bench most of the season period. That may now change.

That's an interesting list! Apart from Whittaker, every single one of them has played in the Premier League or Champions League this season. Got a lot of affection for Chappers. Not sure he's quite got the quality in the premier league, but (a) he was a success in the championship as you say, and (b) we missed him a couple of times when balls were cut back to the edge of the area against Brighton. Maybe he could teach the other attackers that skill if he's not going to play!
Does recruitment seem odd to anyone else?? on 15:25 - Jan 23 with 1831 views | itfcsuth | I think we will see at least one exit from that group, adding in injuries, no great shock he's adding depth there, especially if he is keen to move back to a 3 behind a number 9 predominantly. I suppose my only surprise with the recruitment is the lack of noise around a number 9. It would be a huge huge gamble to go with just Delap and Hirst for half a season.
