Joining on-loan from Reims, with a £4.5m obligation if promoted.

Seems a slightly odd one. I know we're a CB short after Burgess and Tuanzebe left but I'd have thought he'd want to start regularly if he's moving to the Championship and I'm not sure he gets in ahead of Greave and O'Shea.

Not from any reports that Phil gave credence to...

Very solid competition for Greaves in that left-sided berth IMO. A proven top 6 level Champ defender with great physical attributes and no immediate transfer fee.

Decent Champ defender but not the calibre needed for the Prem.

Agree. Can't see him getting ahead of either of the current pair and not sure why we'd want to have a mandatory purchase agreed for a back-up?

Looks like this is the article the OP is taking this from

Yes, decent Champ defender for sure but not Prem level, or even potential Prem level IMO.

Wonder if he ends up a Tuanzebe replacement as whilst played on left is very right footed and that role doesn't contribute much going forwards

He's more than a 'decent' Champ defender. At West Brom he was considered one of the top defenders in the division.

He'd get into most starting XIs in this league, so to have him as a low-cost 3rd choice feels just fine to me.

I'm not sure how mobile enough he'd be to play the Axel role?

Don't know too much about him to be honest. However, we need desperately to get some central midfield players in, not sure this signing makes a huge difference if I am honest?

Wonder if this is - albeit 4 years in the making - the start of Ashtons 'French' revolution at Town. Given his previous record of signing players from there with Bristol City.

Nope...just a continuation of signing ex-West Brom players!

Of course, it also helps that his agent is none other than CAA Base!

Well quite, I suspect that is the case ... but I like the idea in my head better, ha! Was looking forward to seeing Desire Doue rock up!

Good replacement for Burgess I'd say. Allows healthy competition for Greaves.

We know it's midfield and another striker we are desperate to strengthen but it's often those key areas identified that takes longer to get done while other business gets done around it.

Perhaps an indirect Axel replacement with an expectation that O'Shea might play rightback on a more regular basis? Or a tactical shift with a clearer 3atb formation, giving more flexibility for the CMs we bring in to be slightly less of a defensive shield?

very uninspiring to say the least!
