Not surprised though, a lot of Prem teams have a 'shadow squad' of players in their early to mid 20s that have no real prospect of making the first team for their parent club but seem to kept on by sending them out on loan, people like Garbutt and Pennington. |  |

That's pretty savage. Fringe or otherwise I would expect a manager to be aware of his existence. I would wager 90%+ of Everton season ticket holders can tell you who Luke Garbutt is, so it's a bit harsh that the manager can't. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and put it down to the pronunciation and fact he's not been in the job very long. |  |

Not entirely surprising, I assume Garbutt would have been down as a development squad player rather than a first-teamer despite his age and won't have been at Everton at all since Ancelotti took over. And these “ Shadow players “ are paid a fortune . Garbutt is a multi millionaire and he’s basically a journeyman. This underlined all that I’d wrong in the game today . Clubs hoovering up young talent because they can pay them mega bucks, but never having any intention of playing them in their senior squad . |  |
