What favourite/most poetic descriptions of emotions have you heard/read, perhaps in song lyrics or novels? They all have simple one word labels: anger, joy, love, sadness etc., but none of these do them justice to how they really feel.
What profound phrase have you heard to describe an emotion and you've thought, yep, that nails it?! For example (whatever you think of Morrissey) "Punctured bicycle on a hillside desolate," is a fabulous description of a feeling of failure, or perhaps isolation/loneliness.
Or it's pretentious, sixth form poetry - depending on your POV!
There's plenty of cliched ones, such as "blood boils" to describe anger. Any a bit cleverer/less well know that you like?
Pronouns: He/Him/His.
"Imagine being a heterosexual white male in Britain at this moment. How bad is that. Everything you say is racist, everything you say is homophobic. The Woke community have really f****d this country."
Assumption is to make an ass out of you and me.
Those who assume they know you, when they don't are just guessing.
Those who assume and insist they know are daft and in denial.
Those who assume, insist, and deny the truth are plain stupid.
Those who assume, insist, deny the truth and tell YOU they know you (when they don't) have an IQ in the range of 35-49.
Billy Bragg for me. Poet of the prosaic, or something.
From being a teen misfit:
"I never made the first team, I just made the first team laugh."
To his, in my opinion, greatest lyric which takes an old English folk saying, and extends it via several metaphors to characterise the stages of an always doomed youthful romance, from loved up platform goodbyes, through lust-filled separation (verse 2, most poetic verse about w**king or what?) to acknowledging that the love has died. Take your pick of the imagery, but I think the last four lines are so evocative.
St Swithin's Day
Thinking back now I suppose you were just stating your views What was it all for For the weather, or the Battle of Agincourt And the times that we all hoped would last Like a train they have gone by so fast And though we stood together At the edge of the platform We were not moved by them
With my own hands When I make love to your memory It's not the same I miss the thunder I miss the rain And the fact that you don't understand Casts a shadow over this land But the sun still shines from behind it
Thanks all the same But I just can't bring myself to answer your letters It's not your fault But your honesty touches me like a fire The Polaroids that hold us together Will surely fade away Like the love that we spoke of forever On St Swithin's Day

Another one from Bragg - football related.
The Few - Billy Bragg
At night the baby brotherhood and the inter city crew Fill their pockets up with calling cards And paint their faces red white and blue Then they go out seeking different colored faces And anyone else that they can scare And they salute the foes their fathers fought By raising their right hands in the air Oh look how my country's patriots are hunting down below What do they know of England who only England know
From the stands of the empire stadium Come the heralds of the new dark age With the simplicities of bigotry And to whom all the world's a stage These little john bullsh*ts know that the press Will glorify their feats So that the general public fear them And the authorities say give 'em all seats And the wasted seed of the bulldog breed Is shouting…
Edit: The song was written post Hillsboro' and at the start of the Premier League. Hence the line, "and the authorities say give 'em all seats".

Don't believe a word I say. I'm only kidding. Or am I?

Excellent shout.
Another lyric I love of his: "I celebrate my love for you with a pint of beer and a new tattoo."
This from Paul Simon always stuck with me, when you're in a certain situation a song becomes totally relevant and speaks to you like no other
She comes back to tell me she's gone As if I didn't know that As if I didn't know my own bed As if I'd never noticed The way she brushed her hair from her forehead And she said, "losing love Is like a window in your heart Everybody sees you're blown apart Everybody sees the wind blow"

More from the lost highway bard of the A13:
Valentine's Day Is Over Billy Bragg
Someday, boy, you'll reap what you've sown You'll catch a cold and you'll be on your own And you will see that what's wrong with me Is wrong with everyone that you wanna play your little games on
Poetry and flowers, pretty words and threats You've gone to the dogs again and I'm not placing bets on you Coming home tonight Anything but blind If you take me for granted than you must expect to find Surprise, surprise!
Valentine's Day is over, it's over Valentine's Day is over
If you want to talk about, well You know where the phone is Don't come 'round reminding me again How brittle bone is God didn't make you an angel The devil made you a man That brutality and the economy Are related now I understand When will you realize that as above So below there is no love?
Valentine's Day is over, it's over Valentine's Day is over
For the girl with the hour-glass figure Time runs out very fast We used to want the same things But that's all in the past And lately it seems that as it all gets tougher Your idea of justice just becomes rougher and rougher
Valentine's Day is over, it's over Valentine's Day is over
Thank you for the things you bought me Thank you for the card Thank you for the things you taught me when you hit me hard That love between two people must be based on understanding Until that's true you'll find your things all stacked out on the landing Surprise, surprise!
Valentine's Day is over, it's over Valentine's Day is over, it's over It's over
If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine And my tunes were played on the harp unstrung Would you hear my voice come through the music Would you hold it near as it were your own? It's a hand-me-down, the thoughts are broken Perhaps they're better left unsung I don't know, don't really care Let there be songs to fill the air Ripple in still water When there is no pebble tossed Nor wind to blow Reach out your hand if your cup be empty If your cup is full may it be again Let it be known there is a fountain That was not made by the hands of men There is a road, no simple highway Between the dawn and the dark of night And if you go no one may follow That path is for your steps alone Ripple in still water When there is no pebble tossed Nor wind to blow You who choose to lead must follow But if you fall you fall alone If you should stand then who's to guide you? If I knew the way I would take you home

I can think of plenty of examples, particularly from my obsession with the likes of Bloc Party and Passion Pit and any lyrics from the Postal Service, but these are perhaps my favourite love (related) songs (lyrically)
Trespassers William: Vapour Trail
“First you look so strong Then you fade away The sun will blind my eyes I love you anyway
First you fight your smile I loved you for a while You are a vapour trail In a deep blue sky
Tremble with a sigh Glitter in your eye You seem to come and go I never seem to know
And all my time Is yours as much as mine We never have enough Time to show our love“
The Postal Service: Such Great Heights
“I am thinking it's a sign That the freckles in our eyes Are mirror images and when We kiss they're perfectly aligned
And I have to speculate That God himself did make Us into corresponding shapes Like puzzle pieces from the clay
And true, it may seem like a stretch, But its thoughts like this that catch My troubled head when you're away When I am missing you to death“

No idea who Trespassers William are, but Vapour Trail is a song by Ride.
Beautiful song, mind. I'm listening to the Trespassers William cover on Spotify right now and it sounds very nice, very stripped back.
"I'd weave you into the scenery" is my favourite threat. Ever.
Further enhanced with the "F" word before scenery.
I've taken to using "massive clown shoe" as an insult, which I particularly enjoy.
Please note: prior to hitting the post button, I've double checked for anything that could be construed as "Anti Semitic" and to the best of my knowledge it isn't. Anything deemed to be of a Xenophobic nature is therefore purely accidental or down to your own misconstruing.
"Roy Orbison singing for the lonely Hey that's me and I want you only Don't turn me home again I just can't face myself alone again"
Or from The River:
"Now all them things that seemed so important Well, mister, they vanished right into the air Now I just act like I don't remember And Mary acts like she don't care"
"Now those memories come back to haunt me They haunt me like a curse Is a dream a lie if it don't come true Or is it something worse"
On a relationship fading under the reality of unemployment and a baby*.
*Although The River is based on his sister's life and, despite hard years, she and her husband worked out well.
